I'd rather play a straight up visual novel than deal with this gameplay.

Lovecraftian horror RPG with a retro look and feel.

I loved the story and it kept me hooked until the end, i liked that the characters in your party have distinct personalities and will react to events and conversations. It made them endearing and more than just numbers on a spreadsheet. It felt great to explore the world and unveil its mysteries, attributes of the members of your party will be used in checks that allow for more information or problem-solving. The adventure will take you from the open wilds to mysterious forgotten tombs in an end-of-the-world plot that will challenge the hero's perception of reality. You'll be fighting mad cultists, ravenous corrupted beasts, possessed corpses, and of course, squamous fish-men ;)
The world building is also great, there's clearly a lot of thought that went into it and there are references to the inner workings of the empire, how magic works, what the history of the world is, even if those elements don't always come up directly during the game.

On the flip side: There is a lot of combat, which is to be expected in the genre but I found it got tedious real fast, enemies with too many HP or map layouts that prevents you from attacking enemies with more than one adventurer at a time. There is also a lack of ergonomics, navigating the menus is frustrating (you need to use them quite a lot) and I found myself opening the pause menu quite often because I pressed the "escape" key too many times. The game nails the classic computer RPG look but I wish there was an option to use modern fonts that are easier to read, the environment can also get visually overcrowded to the point that it's hard to understand what's going on and where you can walk or not (the big city in the first third of the game is the most vivid example I can think of). I also won't spoil the ending but I didn't enjoy the last stretch where you have to dredge from one puzzle to another until you reach the conclusion.


All in all, these are minor nitpicks and it didn't detract me too much from the rest of the game. I do wish I didn't have to squint at my screen for 15-ish hours, but this feedback comes up a lot from other players so hopefully the devs will add an option to make the text more readable at some point. I recommend checking out the difficulty options to make your experience better, they do not turn off achievements. (I played with random encounters turned off and with auto-heal between fights).

Simple yet fun game, very cheap

Un jeu que j'évalue bien en ♥♥♥♥♥♥! Si vous n'avez pas été conquis par la bande son, si vous n'avez pas explosé vos yeux sur les couleurs clignotantes des niveaux de discothèque, si vous n'avez pas hurlé de joie en réalisant un combo parfait, si vous n'avez pas fracassé vos mains sur votre clavier car vous croyiez avoir fini le niveau mais vous avez oublié un ennemi, là bas, oui oui, celui avec la mitrailleuse. Et enfin si vous n'avez pas brisé votre doigt a force de massacrer la touche pour recommencer le niveau, alors je vous offre cette occasion unique de jouer au meilleur jeu de la terre, de l'univers, de l'infini, et au delà.
