I'm not done with this game yet. I suspect I'm not even particularly close. However sometimes certain games are just special and you feel a degree of responsibility to them. To do whatever you can to make more people see it. I feel that responsibility today.

Much has been said about this game's virtues. It's bump combat is unique and well executed. It's story is fascinating. It is full of well hidden but fair secrets and It's music continues to play in my head when I am far from my computer. What I'd like to impress upon you is this: This game has soul. Buckets of it. This game is so sincere and so heartfelt that you can feel the humanity radiating off the screen.

This is a game made by people, and it contains much of those people. That is something that is dearly precious these days.

I'm a little way into act two right now. Wanted to wait till I was done with the game before reviewing but I can't stand to read all of the negative reviews that are coming in.

This game is a 10/10 masterpiece. It has a few flaws that could be ironed out but still are not that serious when judging the experience as a whole.

The reason this game is currently sitting at an abysmal 75%~ on steam right now is that it has failed to live up to the hyper specific fantasy version of itself that people have been fabricating in their heads for the last six years. This game is challenging. It requires persistence. It is not a mechanical copy of Hollow Knight.

Over the last six years of waiting the community around Silksong has cultivated an incredible sense of entitlement. They have convinced themselves that they have a right to experience the game and this entitlement extends to the game's challenge. When a boss is very difficult this offends many players because they feel that they have a special right to experience the next area. For them being stopped by a challenge is much like team cherry delaying the game again.

Mark my words. This is an all timer. A 10/10 masterpiece classic that will not be topped for many, many years. And one day not too long from now everyone will agree with me.

I can't think of the last time an indie immersive sim came out. This is a good one. Very good. And it's got buckets of content.

I've played a lot of soulslikes in my time and I'm usually quite picky about them. I went into this game not expecting too much but came out (6 hours later) very impressed. This game does not lead with it's best material but once you get past the first few areas the design really comes into it's own and delivers exactly the experience that fans of Dark Souls games want.

I also think it warrants special mention that this is the best 2D adaptation of these ideas that I've seen. It's quite hard to take a tightly integrated formula and translate it into 2D space without something breaking. I think that in particular is really worth praise.

Well done.

Very nice to see a small simple game that does this much with so little. Very fun.

Early Access Review
Quick thoughts because I think this game is insanely cool and I want to give some feedback.

Quite a lot of screen space is wasted. Would be good to scale down the hud elements so I can see more of the board at once. I should also be able to pan the camera with the mouse. Perhaps by holding right click.

Other that those nit picks this game is fantastic. I seriously hope it takes off because it would be well deserved.

First run to get the first "ending" took 6 hours but felt like 20 (in a good way)

Like a "proper rougelike" but structured such that it doesn't take you 100+ hours to grasp the fundamentals of buildcrafting. It goes straight to the fun.

Also it's really nice to see another Godot game doing well on steam.
