I've owned Stellaris for a long time, but never really played it until Star Trek: Infinite came along and it made it easier to learn the system. After hours upon hours of Stellaris, I decided to give DW2 a try.

It fills my needs of a micromanagement platform, or a totally automated one, or a hybrid...with a level of complexity that scratches all of those itches. Sure, the UI is clunky and it can be a bear to learn, but it's infinitely re-playable in just about any way you want to. It's also a little difficult to learn, but well worth the effort.

If you like role play, stick with Stellaris. If you like simulations that can be as complicated as you want it to be, then DW is your game. I constantly switch between the two, each has it's own draw.

If you played the old Avalon Hill hex and counter games of the 70s and 80s (remember keeping notes on supply, air use, movement points, etc?) then this is the game for you. It's bloated and complicated, yet so satisfying! Worth every dollar.
