SPOILERS

Besides the fun new gunplay mechanics like the manufacturer swaps and combat systems, Borderlands 4 fails to deliver in every other aspect.

1. The base game story was extremely lacking and felt unfulfilling compared to other Borderlands games. Comparing the story of Borderlands 4 to Borderlands 3, I felt a better connection to the characters, npc's and, their individual struggles. In this games the characters weren't as engaging to understand and their story was too short to really get to know more about them. On top of that, I was disappointed that we didn't see many of the characters from Borderlands 3 in the base game, although they are probably still on Pandora seeing these characters will most likely be locked behind DLCs. To me, I understand many people don't focus on the story and care more about the gunplay and grinding but I always enjoyed the story and was disappointed on how short and lacking it was. One thing that stuck out to me was the small amount of interaction with have with Lilith who has barely an hour of dialogue but the entire focus of the story was to save Lilith and stop the Time Keeper. It felt odd because of how important a role she played in Borderlands 3 just to reduce her character development to an obvious build up to the next game/DLC.

2. Kairos's Open World concept was fun at first but felt tedious and complicated when trying to move around the map without fast travel. Now that I am at the point where I can just fast travel to where I need to go, I don't see the point in having an open world besides the world events, which become unnecessary at a certain point in the game. The side missions like the mines and order bases are fine and the bosses are fun yet repetitive once you know what your doing. The gliders are fun to use but I personally would have preffered the older level design style of game play.

3. End game missions feel unfinished and boring with the repeated concept of going to a boss fight, kill the boss, doing that 3-4 times and then doing a wildcard mission which felt lazy and not fun in most cases. Furthermore, I had multiple side missions be riddled with bugs and glitches forcing me to relog into the game and sometimes lose loot to these issues.

4. A small gripe I have is with the difficultly, I only play on hard difficulty and this game is honestly a joke with how easy it was. Once you find a decent gun, legendary or not, you can easily run through this game. Most of the bosses are easy, the harder ones either have a one-shot mechanic you have to follow but even those guys just die to a decent gun. I even beat the final bosses, The Time Keeper and Arjay, without using my action skill once on Vex. The only problem i had on those fights was running out of ammo with my fast firing Ripper/ Torgue shotguns. Right now I am on UVH 4 and I still have very little issues, maybe level 5 will be challenging but as someone who played all the Borderlands games, this one is definitely not the hardest one.

Tbh, I don't like this game as it is right now and I hope this isn't the direction that the Borderlands series goes to. Gearbox will probably add a lot more stuff in the future fixing a lot of these issues but on the initial launch this game is very lacking.
