Seeing all these thumbs down votes this has received makes me a little disheartened. While it might not exactly qualify as a "game" in modern terms, it still was a nice experience to me, regardless.

As someone who has been battling depression for the past few years, I thought the story DQ presented was fairly accurate, especially when I compare the main character's thoughts and (potential) actions to how I felt. Answering the questions honestly lead me to see that his life also plays out similar to mine, internal struggles and all. There was the small connection there and I really enjoyed it.

I guess it helps because "gameplay" is so simple, its a short but well written story.

Could have been longer, but you can only write so much about depression and only expect players to get so far before getting bored of it, or for events to keep repeating or be similar, or before reaching a point where your character ends up potentially offing himself.

If you want a little taste of what's potentially going through the mind of one who suffers from moderate to (somewhat) severe depression, give this a go. Try your best to make the right choices and watch how the character struggles no matter what you do, and prevents himself from making (socially) right decisions too. How the prying of everyone around just makes him withdraw that much further even though he just wants someone to understand him and not tell him to just suck it up. How it hijacks his life. It truly is not that simple as grinning and bearing it.

TL;DR Great story, somewhat simple and boring gameplay, but kept me interested as I wanted to see where the main character ended up. DQ succeeded in what it set out to do (to me). Play this if you're curious as to how one potentially thinks with depression.
