I DEAD HARDED

after 1.2k hours i can say that, while the game has a really high barrier of entry and is unforgiving to new players, its very fun to play with others and improve at, the rush of a good game is great

With the simplest of movements and communication, you will build a strong connection with someone that you may never speak to again. That connection will still stick with you long after you've reached your destination. Combine that with beautiful settings, visuals, and music, and you've got what makes this short experience so special.

everything i say is relative to the 1st and 2nd games. didn't feel like writing reviews for all 3, so I'm just gonna write one for the one that I found the best out of the trilogy. plus this is the last meme review i need so yeet.

best aesthetic for trials, characters, and in general

best characters. yes, many of them are one trick ponies,(half of them are in the other games as well) however, I found that the characters showed the most insight in and outside of trials in this one. this doesn't mean that some of them aren't straight up memes, or just really bad and plain. because they exist. but throughout the entire cast, I was the most interested in what everyone had to say in this game as compared to the rest.

best music overall, don't @ me

best minigames, simply because scrum debate is so kino that this game automatically wins

ending is definitely questionable lmao(liked it personally, just enjoy the ride imo)

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happens, as it does in every single one of these games

the casino is kino

kaede best girl

tenko ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks

this game is just different from the first 2 in many ways. you can tell they were going for something else, that much is apparent in only the first 30 minutes of gameplay. that could seal the deal for many right off the bat. with that mind, paying $60 for this ♥♥♥♥ is pretty hefty. i waited for a sale at $42 and bought it, then it went down to $30 the next sale(i was cucked), then it was like $36 the next sale so I have no idea what they're doing with the prices because there's no consistency. i'd say wait until it drops to $30 or so again if you're thinking of buying.

if you're gonna buy this, play the first two games first. it makes the most sense, you'll understand everything that's happening, and that is the intended way this series was meant to be played. ultra despair girls is not necessary, neither is the danganronpa 3 anime. playing this without playing the first two is honestly really dumb.

If you enjoy typing, you'll like this.

The story and world are fairly interesting. Nothing that will break your mind, but some cool ideas and visuals are shown as you traverse the land. Wouldn't buy the game for them alone, especially at full price. Those are basically the only things that separate this from a regular typing program, so just be aware of that.

Unfiltered kino.

Allright, for real though.

Celeste definitely surprised me. A friend praised it, and it happened to be on sale, so I held tight and bought it. Having played other precision platformers, a common trend among them was a lack of proper story and characterization. When Celeste's pragmatic themes and characters hit me, I was equally shocked and happy. For a platformer to have a story this great was such a bonus to the experience. The music that accompanied the evolving plot was also fantastic, and accurately portrayed the current mood at every given time.

Even though I love the story and music, those aren't even my favorite parts of Celeste. The movement and level design/flow is simply beatiful. The introduction of new mechanics is seamless. Simply moving in this game is the most fun thing I've experienced in a long time. Once you master it, you are in complete control and it is the most satisfying feeling ever.

Saying that, I can't review this without bringing up speedrunning. Celeste took me 31 hours to 100%, so the rest of my time has been dedicated to learning and speedrunning this game. The game's inclusion of a timer, your fastest times and least amount of deaths, and intentionally quick movement options are what make this a perfect speedgame. The developers made this with speedrunning in mind, and it really shows. It introduces a mechanic that changes the scope of the entire game in the very last level, encouraging everyone to take a shot at destroying their old times. In the time since its release, the devs have been active with the speedrunning community and helped resolve numerous issues. Wish I could nominate them for the steam awards. So, this game doesn't just bring an excellent casual experience. It pushes players beyond that, so that they can accomplish their goals and dreams. A perfect representation of the game's themes being applied to the real world.

So yeah, the first statement still stands.

Edmund's done it again.

Intutive level design with great flow. Different elements incorproated to make new challenges and experiences. Exploration and item collecting make for great replability through the different levels. Fantastic music that fits perfectly. Responsive and quick controls that make moving around as fun as possible.

The greatest aspect of games like this and Super Meat Boy are the various possibilites put in place with only one single entity. Edmund pushes these possibilites to their limits, and makes intricate designs that allow everything to shine equally...I would say even more so in this game than in Super Meat Boy.

If you're a fan of Edmund's other titles, I would highly recommend checking this out.
If you're hesitant, I would say take the leap. While gruelingly difficult, The End is Nigh will pay you back handsomly as you complete its challenges.
