A thrilling, heartfelt space western mystery. If you like any combination of these things, I think you'll love this. But I advise that you go into this game with as little information as possible, because the most rewarding moments come from exploration, experimentation, and nonlinear storytelling. Also the music is fully sick.

I think it's great. The roleplay is fairly light, basically just dialogue options that don't really have many consequences... But oh man, the combat is really satisfying, Each character has different abilities that are all fun to toy around with. It's a really fun hack-and-slash in a beloved fantasy setting.

Visually speaking, the characters and mobs are faithful to the Peter Jackson movies. Many of the environments are beautiful, but unfortunately the final level is really ugly and out of place imo... but it's forgiveable. The other levels more than make up for it.

A few issues with inventory management. I constantly find myself short on space, but then again I like to go around smashing every possible loot box... More annoying than that, though, is the fact that your items don't really carry over between characters. If you're playing Andriel and give an item to Farin to use, for example, you won't be able to access or equip that item if you switch over to playing him on the next level. One other issue: the final boss drops some dope items, but you basically have to be standing right next to him as he dies in order to acquire them. Otherwise you won't be able to reach them before an unavoidable final cutscene rolls and you're back at the beginning.

Those small grievances aside, I really really enjoy this game. I think I've beaten it five or six times. Oh and a final warning to arachnophobes like me: get ready to squint and button mash through a certain level...

An exhilarating, captivating game. Great soundtrack, great puzzler, INCREDIBLE artistic style... 10/10
