update: that was it? 4,6 hours to beat the game... I can't recommend this for 40€.

The game shouldn't be 40€.

That being said, it's good. Kinda. It's boneworks++. I don't even know where to begin with this.

It's really janky. I feel like vaulting and climbing over walls is a lot more difficult than in BW with them making your legs stick to the wall/railing ala blade and sorcery. But it doesn't really work here because "muh realistic physical body" constantly gets in the way of you pulling yourself up and over.

Game performance is lackluster. Constant reprojection and I am well over the recommended requirements. It's "fine" but I expected better performance than bw. Doesn't matter what my graphics options are.

Physics feel better from the get go. Even though they are rough at times, it's an improvement over boneworks and feels very natural. You just interact with stuff how you would in real life and more times than not it will work. Throwing stuff feels really good here.

Great soundtrack. The music in this game is varied and fantastic. You will like what you hear (most of the time). Sound design in general is noticeably better than bw. Things like the reverb of the room are a very nice touch. All returning sound effects are slightly tuned.

Activities from boneworks return including tac trials, arena, sandbox. You now also have a parkour mode that I personally haven't tried yet.

The progression system returns but with some very good changes. You no longer have to haul the little bubbles to the recycler to access them in the sandbox. You just grab the bubbles with both hands and pull them apart. Presto, you got the item. This change fixes my biggest gripe with boneworks. Bullets are not money anymore (as far as I can tell) which is also a great change.

The main story is hidden behind a crane mini-game which I at first missed and took me a embarrassing amount of time to find and complete. It got to the point where I legitimately thought this game had no story campaign. Turns out that a sign which I missed had some text that told me I had to be crane certified before continuing with the game. Bonelab pulls this trick a few times where you have information on how to continue the game on a sign that is REALLY easy to glance over and be lost afterwards.

Now a big negative that I have with both this game and boneworks is the puzzles and how I feel like they waste my time. For now I haven't experienced anything clever in them. They feel like a roadblock. The puzzles that I have experienced aren't as easy to just skip as in bw but maybe that changes later in the game.

A very big focus for this game is mod support but it's not in the game yet or at least the mod tools haven't been given out yet. If it's anything like with bw, then this will be the main selling point of the entire game. We'll see how it pans out.

There's a moment in the game that I just have to mention as it left a very bad taste in my mouth:

One particular puzzle in the beginning of the campaign was too much for my tiny little brain and I couldn't figure out how to get on a platform far above me. Now while I was trying to figure this out, a really loud song with lyrics was repeating over and over again. It was a bombastic song that tried to be mysterious at the same time. Bigger than life. Tries to fill you with awe like you're witnessing the second coming of Christ. But that's not what I'm doing. I'm standing completely still in my room, bored just flicking my control sticks walking and turning trying to solve this garbage puzzle. There was no tension, no enemies, no interesting visuals. I'm not doing something incredible. I'm solving a simple puzzle. Usually this would have some chill background music but I guess this one had to have more intrigue? It baffles me that this is in the game. The song could've played once and then the rest of the puzzle would be scored by some regular background music but okay.

Overall the game is fine, but the price point feels wrong. Even a little bit less would've gone a long way. 35€ sound reasonable. 30€ would've been perfect. Right now I just keep thinking about how expensive it was. It's hard to recommend right now.

I would either wait for a sale or at least wait until mods are made. You'll probably even get an update or two in that time that will make your experience better.
