Install "workshop" branch of the game
Install mods from workshop: union, ninja, dx11 renderer (updated version at https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2787015529) , zgamepad, fps improver and (optionally) "gothic II: classic" if you want to disable NoTR content (I did - I wanted to play G2 the way I played it 20 years ago. You may install other mods, but check compitability before doing so.
Fix sound based on @Pulsar commend (protontrics + file edits)
Fix UI scaling based on @Senpai Rupcio suggestion - find your gothic installation folder, find System/Systempack.ini and search for scale parameter. I set it to 1.2
In graphics settings, I set it from Ultra to High + locked FPS (using SteamDeck overlay) to 45

No idea why people are recommending a --vulkan flag, it doesn't do anything.

Easiest way to get Vulkan working is:

Launch the game without the --skip-launcher flag.
Pick Vulkan in the launcher and boot the game up.
Close the game.
Re-add --skip-launcher to launch options.

Now you're booting the game in Vulkan mode.

Final launch options: gamemoderun mangohud %command% --skip-launcher

mangohud is optional. If you do use mangohud, you should see "VULKAN" below the CPU utilization.
