You're here for the cat and, yes, the cat is a marvel of gamemaking. Subtle touches like how the cats eyes interact with different lighting are 10/10 what you're hoping for.

I'm not the best at puzzle games, so I probably would have done well to have a strategy guide out from the start. I am good at stealth games, and absolutely loved the stealth elements to the game. The world is amazing and varied, as is the game pacing and its challenges. And the mechanics of the protagonist and its perspectives are taken advantage of to the max.

The story is impressively interesting and impactful.

I am exhausted with fetch quests and opening items in games taking me away from narratives... so why do I enjoy New World so much!?

For sure, the constant rewards and achievements for everything you can think to do helps, as does being able to play with friends, but some things just defy logic and surprise me, and that's my New World experience. Playing for a couple weeks, I've done the main story as much as the game allows me, and had my main gripe be that I'm required to reach a certain level to continue, and by the time I reach the level the challenge is slightly underwhelming. I haven't touched the PVP component, and am not high enough level to compete in the wars dictating my fate, but have seen my "factions" territory lost, and with it been hit with higher tax rates from my new overlords. This is had resulted in my engaging in playful banter in my faction chat and engaging in a larger world than I first anticipated. As you'd predict, the world chat is full of sexist angst filled garbage, but its easy enough to avoid by changing what chat channel you sit on. The story has some interesting characters and good voice acting, but is delivered a little too dryly in prose and posture and without interaction to make it engaging. Seems like Amazon would do well to unleash its artists to put more animations in these cut scenes during future updates, if just to give newcomers a better experience than us early adopters.

I did take heed and avoided an overly full server, and needed to join a slightly less optimal region to find one that I got right into along with a friend. Upon launch, before we did any quests, we traversed the New World to find each to stay synced up on our story. Fast travel points are abundant and if you're like me you'll find yourself not wanting to rush past scenery in any case, addicted to the odd stars of the show - fishing, logging, mining & skinning helpless animals. My friend is addicted to working the marketplace, entirely composed of offerings from human players and not lacking for options. I'm having fun, and I can't do a terrific job of explaining why, but it's been well worth my money. Thank science!

A lot of coop fun to be had, with unique battles that require pacing and strategy, and with dialogue that will make you laugh. Just be sure to have a strategy for developing your characters and stick to it.

Be sure to get good "perception" or, sooner or later, you'll find parts of the story you can't continue on because you can't see them. Or you'll just get blown to bits by traps.

It's easy to get stuck in creating a character/team that is unbalanced, and easy to mess up a character hours in by developing them in a direction that doesnt compliment their natural skilset, which requires starting over, which is a lot tedious.

Also, before starting, check out the mods for more loot, which helps speed up the pace of the game to something more managable.
