No instructions/tutorials game modes, unintuitive controls, glitchy camera that clips into walls in multiple levels.. This was gifted to me by a friend, but I asked that person ask for a refund after an hour.

I love this game and the previous game this guy made, Magicite. In Roguelands, you dungeon crawl to get resouces to bring back to your ship and then craft into different things. The levels play well and movement of characters is fluid, the progression tough enough to make you work, but not hard enough to make you want to punch your significant other. Take a look at the video demo and you can see there are a wide variety of enemies that attack in different ways/patterns, making you hesitate everytime you come near something in a world you just unlocked. The character customizaion in this are great as well, letting you customize how you want to play the game from the very beginning and then being able to make armor to build upon that further. The fact that you can party up is amazing as well, as I would love to play Magicite and more dungeon crawlers with friends. The Dev is extremely active and listens to community feedback and updates came pretty frequently in Beta and even after launch. Frankly, this might be every dungeon crawler's wet dream.

The one gripe I have about this game is that the level lay out gets repetitive - each world resembles the last with a different skin on it (this does is not true of enemies as noted above). I think it would be more interesting to go through every world if they had slightly different layouts... like if one world was all narrow halls, or one was just one big room with small islands of resources hovering around and one of said islands had the portals randomly laid out on it (I didn't mention this earlier, but portals are how you progress from one level to the next). A little variety along those lines would go a long way I think to make this game... perfect.

This game is amazing as is - 9.9/10
If levels get some flavor/variety - 15/10

I was skeptical of this game at first - I'm a fan of pixel graphics, but the bullet hell aspect of it seemed to lack depth from the previews and screen shots. I was very wrong about that- the bosses and regular minions are challenging and take a lot of strategy (mainly the bosses) and learning of their attack patterns to defeat (some bosses are downright impossible without teammates and change up their patterns a lot, but they're beatable alone once you find a strategy that works).

The skills for each class fit each class nicely and make each class play very, very differently, which is great for variety and the team aspect of the game. These skills allow you to grow you character as you see fit; you can do more damage, do that damage more often or upgrade/purchase unique skills, or buy skills that allow you to be more durable in different ways. These skills play to each class' particular strengths, and as a result, they are all pretty balanced, but there are also weaknesses that can be overcome with time or teammates. It's a simple setup and skill tree, and it works extremely well for character balance.

The music is nice, but I ended up turning it off in favor of my own playlist, but aside from that, there really are no discernable negatives to this game.

I think this game was made by gamers, for gamers, and incorporates a lot of good ideas into a very streamlined, good product.

Highly recommend.
