it's ok. it's very good for a puzzle game but not really fun to play. fantastic concept, and the game explores many many ways to introduce variations on it.

but at its core the game is extremely tedious. the problem solving is totally mechanical--i mean that there is very little emphasis on intuition. the way to solve 90% of the puzzles in this game is to simply iterate through the solution space until you reach the set of steps to take to solve the problem. and there's very little you can do to reduce the solution space other than calculation.

it's like being presented with a sentence of propositional logic and being asked to find the truth assignment of the variables that makes the sentence true. but the puzzles in this game are all designed so that they are fully reduced. there's no algebra or shortcuts you can apply that make it easier to solve, which is in my opinion the real joy of puzzle solving. instead every problem in this game is solved in exactly the same way: 1. iterate through the list of possible level states until you find one that allows you to reach the goal 2. iterate through the list of accessible states until you find a chain of steps that take you from the initial state to the goal state.

then there's a bunch of hidden stuff which you can only get to by diddling around with non-winning game states, which is only something you want to be doing if you're having fun playing with the game mechanics. which i was not.

so it's obviously a great puzzle game and the concept is very unique, but it's not really my favorite. i have no desire to 100% this one.

definitely give it a try if you like puzzle games. if you want something a little lighter on the tedium and heavier on the a-ha moments, try:

Stephens Sausage Roll
The Witness

if you want something with a somewhat higher working memory requirement but much more intuitive problem solving, try:

Recursed (could not recommend this game more)
