A wonderful open ended colony simulator. I can't really add more than has already been said! Get resources, build your base, manage power usage, tech research and growing crops, hunting or farming animals, battle or trade with AI factions, make clothes or armour to survive harsh winters, desert summers or conflict, all while managing your colonists expectations and moods. And then there's the DLC. It's practically an unending sandbox where you can set your own goals: fight everyone! survive on a -40C ice sheet! make a colony with 100 cats! It's not an easy game (although you can change the difficulty at any point, or just reload), and it's very technical and nerdy at points, which not everyone will get on with. But IMO easily one of the greatest games ever created.
