Takes the best part of any city-builder or sandbox game - the beginning - and turns it into an elaborate puzzle box with different paths to victory every time. Once you've cobbled together your town's path to self-sufficiency, it's time to move on to the next one; no town/run ever outstays its welcome.

I was shocked at how quickly this game became an obsession for me, and still holds my interest after 600+ hours of playtime. You can really feel the love the devs put into this game, and they're constantly making improvements, squashing bugs, and adding new content. If the phrase "roguelike city-builder" tickles you in any way at all, I can't recommend this one enough.

Brilliant synergy between story elements and roguelike mechanics, addictive gameplay, and the incredible music and sound design Supergiant is known for. Just play it.

Vermintide 2 sands off some of the rough edges of its predecessor, and features a solid assortment of interesting, well-crafted maps. Melee and ranged combat both feel equally satisfying in their own right. Definitely a buy for anyone who misses Left 4 Dead; especially with the new versus mode on the horizon.

Hard to be too critical considering how much of my life I've spent playing this game. The AI is subpar at best (much like Civ V), but for some reason Civ VI got its hooks in me in a way Civ V never did. The district system gives you a lot more interesting decisions to make turn-to-turn; though the late game is still kind of a slog. Ultimately I think the game's merits outweigh its faults, though I wish Firaxis would be more proactive about addressing bugs and community complaints.

You like X-COM? Like, the one with the hyphen in it? You should play this, then. It removes most of the finicky spreadsheety stuff (which I kind of liked, but whatever), and keeps the game more centered around base design and combat and the heartbreaking loss of all your favourite dudes. Buy it twice!
