I really disasgree with some of the negative reviews. This is the best KCD2 DLC with a story that bridges the 2 zones.

I was very much a casual player and Brushes with Death fits in with the Trosky story and Kuttenburg story. The forge DLC is a huge grochen sink & the Monestary DLC requires stealth.

Brushes with Death is a compelling view of mental illness in medieval times & I will defend it forever.

TL;DR: Fantastic game, BUT there's a ton of reading & the game is very very long (my first playthrough took 100+ hours)

The sheer amount of options for skills/perks when you level up is overwhelming early on. If you can brave the first 15-20 hours, you're golden for the rest of it.

The writing is by far the best part, very well done and even if you're not a 40k fan already its tells a great story with compelling and complex characters. Plus, there's a handy in-game dictionary that defines many of the 40k proper nouns while in dialogue.

9/10, can't wait for Dark Heresy

The best action roguelike around. Gearbox has done a surprisingly good job taking up the mantle of development from Hoopoo, 9/10 amazing game

Excellent game, a gem of indie FPS titles. Nothing more satisfying than sprinting up to an unsuspecting enemy to flying kick them into the nearest wall.

Story is alright, not particularly special. I don't believe people play a game like this for an earth-shattering narrative.

Missions flip around between hectic action and actual spooky horror to shake up gameplay, it's well done and typically missions are themed as one or the other but there's a few that do both ;)

Soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. If you liked the metal/electronic/industrial vibes of the Doom OST you'll like this one.

Update as of Version 1.3.0.0 on 25/2/26

Haven't played much in a while, jumped back into the safehouse for a bit with the update. Performance is barely above 50fps on my somewhat older system.

Very fun game with friends who're sick of Tarkov's tryhards and meta slaves, performance could use some work imo

Without a doubt had a terrible, terrible launch but at this point it's about as good as Survivors of the Void.

The maps and music were great on launch. All the game-breaking bugs this DLC introduced have since been resolved, item reworks have been solid, new survivors are pretty fun to play & even to unlock.

My only remaining complaints are that Chef still feels underwhelming & really not worth playing more than a few times, and the new False Son boss fight is annoying as hell with no drones/anything to draw the laser attack - it's got no telegraph and melts you nearly instantly if you aren't in cover.

EDIT: as of today (March 4 2025) they've tweaked the boss fight. Added more cover & added a ramp-up period on the laser's damage. Definitely makes the fight feel less like a gamble if you aren't looping.


7.5/10 at this point - help my boi Chef achieve his former glory

Played the game on release weekend & spent several consecutive nights with my friends spreading democracy until 4am!

There were some server & connectivity issues BUT the game also hit 450k concurrent players at one point. Balance was a little wonky as well and many of first few warbond weapons were just straight-up worse than the free warbond gear, so it felt like a handicap to try new weapons while trying to do harder missions

Fast forward to today, and almost everything feels viable to use on 7+ difficulty. I find myself experimenting with weapons I had once written off as weak & having a great time.

it's like gambling but the only thing i lose is my pride

One of the best games I played in 2021 and coming back in 2023 for Kaycee's Mod was even better.
