Battlefield V

"The Great War ended with a deafening silence. The world moved on. And in the silence, we forgot."

Plot
"Enter mankind’s greatest conflict with the complete arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and gadgets plus the best customization content of Year 1 and 2."

Based on World War II and a thematic continuation of its World War I-based precursor Battlefield 1 , the single-player campaign is divided into an introduction followed by episodic War Stories: "Under No Flag" puts the player in the shoes of Billy Bridger, a convicted bank robber and explosives expert conscripted into the Special Boat Service to take part in Operation Albumen, "Nordlys" takes place from the point-of-view of a Norwegian resistance fighter taking part in the sabotage of the German nuclear program, "Tirailleur" tells the story of a Senegalese Tirailleur during Operation Dragoon and "The Last Tiger" depicts the struggles of a German Tiger I tank crew during the Ruhr Pocket in the closing days of the war.

Gameplay
Much like its predeccesors, Battlefield V still has that large all-out chaotic warfare that was always a ton of fun for me. It is worth mentioning that the gunplay in multiplayer is extremely satisfying and for the most part weapons feel realy good, although the guns kind of feel like laser beams and are a bit too accurate for WW2 guns in my opinion. They definitely have recoil but it's really easy to control. Sniping as always is one of the most satisfying you can do and I'd say for the most part the game feels pretty balanced. The starting weapons are all pretty solid and, while there's definitely some much better ones you'll unlock, it doesn't feel like any gun is extremely overpowered or broken.

The large scaled modes, like Tactical and Strategic Conquest are still in my opinion the best game modes and the best way to experience this game. They feel so huge and open, it feels like all-out warfare and it's what always made Battlefield destinctive from other first-person shooters like Call of Duty. Battlefield is just so immersive and it almost feels like you're playing in a live war movie, with people screeming and artillery fire landing all around you, big tanks and bombers decimating the destructible buildings and fortifications.

Now, I must mention that, in my experience, Battlefield V ran pretty poorly on DX12. I didn't experience any crashes in all my playtime but I did experience though quite a few lag-spikes and stuttering which is insanely disappointing considering you 1v1 a lot of times and having a lag-spike right before you're about to shoot the enemy is freaking rough to say the least. With Battlefield 2025 now in the works, I have very low expectations they'll iron out whatever seems to be going on for some users because I fall in that category.

Graphics
The graphics are gorgeous and ran flawlessly on my system at 1440p resolution and well above 120fps (besides the issues I adressed before). Battlefield 1 raised the bar and Battlefield V definitely keeps it up. The raw graphical goodness of effects and lighting textures is enhanced by how cool some of the multiplayer maps look. Bombed-out cities and a map centered around a giant exploded twisted steel bridge really just allows the game to flex its graphics.

Audio
The original soundtrack was composed by Johan Söderqvist & Patrik Andrén and it is one of the best soundtracks of the franchise. The Soundtrack is full of trumpets, trombones, flutes and violins, invoking an emotional and depressing feeling. The full soundtrack is readily available via YouTube. I would also like to point out the deeply immersive sounds throughout the War Stories and multiplayer like the battle cries of the soldiers and the atmosphere of war. The sound effects fill voids when the music isn't on that really set the immersive tone.

Final Verdict
Battlefield V was an extremely underrated game and I'm more than pleased that other players are showing some love and are giving it a try now in 2024. I also nominated Battlefield V for the Outstanding Visual Style award back in 2020. If you are a fan of the Battlefield franchise or military shooters in general, then you will feel right at home. With beautiful graphics and war stories that sticks with you long after the fact, it is hard not to recommend.

Assassin's Creed Origins

"Everything is permitted, Nothing is true."

Plot
Bayek, a respected Medjay in charge of protecting the Siwa Oasis, is abducted along with his son Khemu by a group of five masked men to an underground vault in the Temple of Amun.

Assassin's Creed Origins (ACO) is the begining to Assassin's Creed's mythology trilogy that followed by Assassin's Creed Odyssey ended with Assassin's Creed Valhalla. ACO takes place in 49 B.C.E. and starts the narrative starting a group of masked men The Order of The Ancients. The setting has Bayek venturing through different regions of Egypt with a strong narrative focus on Egyptian mythology. Each game in the trilogy has a distinct feel with the setting and ACO starts that trend. I really enjoyed ACO's story; It's a dark and gritty portayal of Bayek and his mission.

Gameplay
The gameplay in ACO is phenomenal. ACO is a notable departure from emphasizong combat encounters and instead strongly focusses on puzzles and exploration. Much like Assassin's Creed Syndicate, ACO features a progression system where completing certain actions earns the player experience. Leveling up not only makes Bayek stronger, it also grants ability points that can be spent to unlock skills from the game's skill tree. There are three main branches in this tree:
- Master Warrior, which focuses on melee combat.
- Master Hunter, which focuses on ranged combat and stealth.
- Master Seer, which focuses on tools and manipulating the environment.
In addition to skills, there is a full crafting system, based on materials gathered through hunting, which can be used to improve Bayek's equipment, such as the Hidden Blade. This is necessary when assassinating higher level enemies, which will not die from one blow if the Hidden Blade has not been sufficiently upgraded. Origins also moves away from the mission structure of previous entries in the franchise, instead utilizing quests that the player has to pick up in the open world and can then pursue at their leisure without desynchronizing. Desert Overheat is another RPG element being introduced with Origins. Essentially players can develop heatstroke due to being in the desert for too long. The system introduces varying effects depending on the severity of Desert Overheat.

I enjoy a good callenge and attempting Hard difficulty on a fresh game offered that. Hard makes the enemies more spongy while making you less which really adds tension, fear, and thought into every one of your actions. The difficulty is not extremely adjustable but everyone will find the experience they are looking for.

Graphics
The graphics are simply breathtaking. I found myself having to stop and take screenshots so often with the build-in photo mode. Ubisoft have produced a really great PC game for the third time in 2017. It is also very clearly a game for the here and now; anyone with hardware not from the current generation will likely discover that they cannot play the game looking at its best. Less powerful cards can certainly support the game, but the density of Ubisoft’s massive recreation of Egypt means that the performance is never out of this world. My build had no issue getting 60 frames per second locked at 1440p resolution with no settings turned down. I want to add the draw distance here is kiler, riding through the dessert and seeing a village out in the distance or when you use the bird's eye view to see pretty much the entire map, which was rendered pretty much instantly, is super impressive. Ubisoft have really achieved an impressive level of detail at this point.

Audio
The original score was composed by Sarah Schachner. Such a great soundtrack. The soundtrack can be found through various applications such as Spotify, iTunes or Soundcloud for absolutely free. There are 27 tracks and are encoded in lossy MP3. Sarah Schachner has experience with a lot of instruments and worked on many Call of Duty games such as Infinite Warfare and also worked with Ubisoft on the Far Cry and Assassin's Creed series. I want to add that ACO features an immersive audio setting which has NPCs speaking in their native language. I adored this setting. There are some inconsistences with some main characters speaking English but it's not out of the realm of possibility that some learned the language. All-in-all, I appreciate the effort that went into something like this and hope to see it more often.

Final Verdict
If you are a fan of action-adventure games with open worlds, action and adventure then I fully recommend ACO. ACO is a deep-dive into a truly stunning realization of ancient Egypt, with a rich series of cultures, genuine characters, and more mission variety than any other game in the series. However I do not reccomend playing Odyssey and Valhalla next as it would not hinder your experience if you are just looking to hop in. The RPG elements encourage challenges of their own, and even despite a handful of bugs, I desperately wanted to keep playing.

Assassin's Creed Origins - The Hidden Ones

"A sequel done right."

Plot
Riding across the golden landscapes of Egypt in search of rare loot, invading enemy fortresses for adrenaline-pumping assassinations, and following the story of Bayek as he lays down the groundwork for what will become the famed Brotherhood of Assassins are the experiences I treasured in Assassin’s Creed Origins.

The Hidden Ones (THO) is the continuation to Bayek's journey that started with Assassin's Creed Origins. THO takes place after the events of the main game and continues the narrative following the occupying Roman forces and a rebel faction. The setting has Bayek venturing to the Sinai Peninsula with a strong narrative focus on the events that came after the formal founding of the Brotherhood. Each DLC in the game has a distinct feel with the setting and THO continues that trend. I really enjoyed THO's story; Bayek wasn't only one of the most deserving Assassin's Creed protagonists for a sequel but he also had the perfect opportunity for one because there was so much we didn't know about the rest of his life and The Hidden Ones.

Gameplay
The gameplay in THO has it all concerning the simple gameplay mechanics of the base game. It could be argued that THO "feels" much the same as the main installment but sometimes change is not the answer. The raised level cap and additional equipment slots don't completely unbalance combat, but they do provide a nice sense of progression, and having 10-11 predator arrows to call on at any given time makes snipers even more snipery than before.

The special mounts and weapons you acquire here aren't much more powerful than ones you already have, but they are fun.

Graphics
The graphics are simply breathtaking. I found myself having to stop and take screenshots with the built-in photo mode. Similar to the base game, THO is incredibly optimized. My build had no issue getting 60 frames per second locked at 1440p resolution with all the settings maxed out. There are a multitude of graphics options to accommodate what you want to accomplish. I want to add the weapon and outfit design are incredible. Enviromental textures, a work in progress since Assassin's Creed Origins, has really achieved an impressive level of detail at this point.

Audio
I want to underline that both Assassin's Creed Origins and THO feature an immersive language audio setting which has NPCs speaking to their native language. I adored this setting. There are some inconsistencies with some main characters speaking English but it's not out of the realm of possibility that some learned the language. All-in-all, I appreciate the effort that went into something like this and hope to see it more often.

Final Verdict
If you are a fan of Assassin's Creed Origins' open world, puzzles and combat, then I recommend THO. THO eventually makes one of the more salient points in all of Assassin’s Creed. The title’s fitting considering how the poignancy and moral nuance stays hidden until the end. I do recommend playing The Curse of the Pharaohs next but don't think it would hinder your experience if you are just looking to hop in. Honestly, I am left with a feeling of desperation, truly hoping that they continue Bayek's story beyond his origins.

Resident Evil 3

DISCLAIMER; This is a full game's review and not a review for this demo

PLOT
Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon: Nemesis!

Resident Evil 3 (RE3) is the following to Racoon City's origin that started with Resident Evil. RE3's opening sequences occur 24 hours before the start of Resident Evil 2. While there are some obvious plotline ties to Resident Evil 2 in those early segments, much of the beginning of this game is really a side story designed to shed some light on what happened to Jill Valentine after Resident Evil. Each game in the franchise has a distinct feel with the setting and RE3 continues that trend. I really enjoyed RE3's story; It's a dark and gritty portrayal of Jill and Carlos and their mission.

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay in RE3 is phenomenal. RE3 is a notable departure from emphasizing horror encounters (they are still here) and instead strongly focuses on action and exploration. It could be argued that RE3 "feels" more like a 2020 game because it is a 2020 game. The classic world is brought to life in glorious detail, and smart level design makes exploring it a delight and replaying it almost compulsory. If only all remakes could be this good; bring on the next one.

I enjoy a good challenge and attempting Hardcore difficulty on a fresh game offered that. Hardcore difficulty removes all advantages similar to Standard mode, the enemies are tougher and can do more damage and there are fewer items that can be found throughout the game.

Graphics
The graphics are gorgeous and ran flawlessly on my system with all settings maxed at 1440p resolution and 60 frames per second. There are a multitude of graphics options to accomodate what you want to accomplish. Since the graphics rely on this realistic look, they won't age in the same way other games of this nature would.

Audio
The original score was composed by Masami Ueda ( 上田雅美, ueda masami?). Such a great soundtrack. The soundtrack is purchasable via Steam but I am not sure how many tracks are there and how are they encoded. Masami Ueda is a composer of videogame music who has helped score several installments of the Resident Evil series. I want to add that RE3 features an immersive language audio setting. I adore this setting. There are some inconsistencies with some main characters speaking English but it's not out of the realm of possibility that some learned the language. All-in-all, I appriciate the effort that went into something like this and hope to see it more often.

Final Verdict
If you are a fan of horror games with close worlds, action and zombies then I fully recommend RE3. RE3 is a much darker game than the classic installment and is a thrilling prologue to the remake series. I do recommend playing Resident Evil 2 next but don't think it would hinder your experience if you are just looking to hop in. Honestly, I am lift with a feeling of desperation, truly hoping that they continue this series beyond.

RESIDENT EVIL RESISTANCE

One of the games that SUCKED in 2020

PLOT
RESIDENT EVIL RESISTANCE is a mastermind vs 4 survivors online multiplayer game set in the Resident Evil universe where four survivors face-off against a sinister Mastermind.

It needs to be said that this is also developed by NeoBards Entertainment Ltd, who is not best known for the Resident Evil (RE) franchise. There is not massive emphasis on RESIDENT EVIL RESISTANCE's overall story; it is just another multiplayer game after all.

GAMEPLAY
The idea of RE RESISTANCE is great. The mastermind can place traps and summon monsters, make life harder for the survivors. It sounds actually really cool. Coolest thing in the mode is the mastermind's ability to take direct control, over like Mr. X and some of the other iconic monsters. What isn't cool - at least at launch - was the network. Even on the best connections these matches would stutter and it'd take minutes at a time to actually join one. And the matches themselves would be prone to timing out or rubber banding, it could be unplayable. The balance wasn't that good either. Every match felt like it saw the survivors either easily win if they work together or get stuck in a drawn-out slog, where they'd loose because somebody wouldn't stick with the group.

And there's only four maps when it originally came out so it got repetitive really quick. Just wasn't enough depth to give it legs and the constant connection problems made it much worse.

Audio
The music, composed by Ko-Ta, is drenched in the video game sounds. The music does an amazing job cultivating a great atmosphere throughout the game. Hopefully, the soundtrack will be made easily avaliable someday.

Final Verdict
It's not the worst thing in the RE franchise but considering it's a great idea it felt... really short. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who is fan of this franchise.

DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part Two

...may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again.

Plot
The Ancient Gods – Part Two is the epic conclusion to the DOOM Slayer’s Saga and the second campaign expansion to the critically acclaimed DOOM Eternal.

The Ancient Gods - Part Two (TAG 2) takes place directly after the events of The Ancient Gods - Part One, with the Slayer and the Dark Lord in the Luminarium on Urdak. The Slayer aims his Super Shotgun at the Dark Lord and fires a shot, to which the Dark Lord informs the Slayer that no blood can be spilt in the Luminarium. He then proceeds to tell him that if he can survive, then he will challenge him to ritual combat in the city of Immora. The Dark Lord then leaves Urdak and transports the Slayer to Argent D'Nur, where he fights off to meet him for their final confrontation.

Gameplay
The gameplay in TAG 2 is phenomenal. TAG 2 is a notable departure from emphasizing exploration (it is still here) and instead strongly focuses on combat encounters and puzzles. Compared to the first DLC, Part 2 doesn't feel as difficult, but this doesn't have to do with lowering the intensity of combat or lessening how many enemies you face. If anything, it feels like there are even more demons to contend with than anywhere else in the game.

The only thing that would be a problem is the dark lord fight for me being a bumbling moron. That being said I might just be over confident.

Graphics
The graphics are gorgeous and ran flawlessly on my system at 1440p resolution and 60 frames per second. There are a multitude of graphics options to accommodate what you want to accomplish. I found myself taking screenshots quite often with the beautiful ray-traced reflections. The cut scenes are insanely well done had stuck with me long after viewing them. Some achieve full blown cinematic experiences.

Audio
The music was composed by Andrew Hulshult. Such a great soundtrack. The soundtrack can be found through soundcloud.com. There are 18 tracks and are encoded in lossy MP3. Andrew Hulshult (former frontman for Texas groove metal band Burying The Trend) and partner-in-crime David Levy caught up with Metal Injection ahead of the launch of TAG 2. The format is fairly standard but not the best for me; still sounds amazing. All-in-all, I appreciate the effort that went into something like this and hope to see it more often. Great soundtrack; I have listened to it many times!

Final Verdict
If you are a fan of difficult action-adventure games with gore, violence and demons then I fully recommend TAG 2. TAG 2 truly left an impression on me long after completion. TAG 2 would be my nominaton for the DLC of the Year award if that existed as part of the 2021 Steam Awards. If you are a fan of Bethesda's previous works, without question play this game.

Red Dead Online

“We’re thieves, in a world that don’t want us no more”

Plot
Story missions are done completely in private sessions and can be done by 2-4 players. It is possible to play with only a player's posse or use matchmaking to play with other players. With the exception of the intro missions, all missions can be replayed, but won't give the same rewards as when they were completed for the first time.

The narrative of Red Dead Online (RDO) spans a total of 15 story missions, with an additional 5 missions included in the Moonshiners DLC. For the first time in the Red Dead series, the player's choices and honor play a major role in the story, as certain missions are available only to players with a high or low honor level. The game also features several Strangers that give an unlimited number of side-missions to the player.

Gameplay
The gameplay in RDO is phenomenal. RDO is staying fresh with developments such as the Moonshiner role and the Outlaw Pass season offering up more challenges to complete. Throw in all of the regular hunting, trading, exploring and more that we've used to seeing, along with daily challenges to mix things up and reward regular players, you should have no fear about getting stuck with nothing to do. Considering all of that, it's possible for RDO to feel overwhelming and you can quickly get lost with so many activities to choose from - even if you have a particular goal in mind such as ranking up to a certain level to unlock that new item you want, or the usual motivation of collecting stacks of dollars to upgrade your gear and live your best life.

Following the Frontier Pursuits update, you have a choice of Red Dead Online roles to follow and develop your character along a unique path. You can become a Bounty Hunter, a Trader, a Collector, or a Moonshiner, and we've got details of all the benefits each career can provide.

Graphics
The graphics are simply breathtaking. I found myself having to stop to take screen shots so often with the build-in photo mode. Similar to previous Rockstar games, RDO isn't incredibly optimized. However, my build had no issue getting well above 30 frames per second at 1440p resolution with only a few settings turned down. The Nvidia optimazation guide shows that settings have very minimal frame impact from the lowest to highest. I want to add the weapon and outfit designes are incredible. Playermodel's hair, a work in progress since Grand Theft Auto V, has really achieved an impressive level of detail at this point.

Audio
Red Dead Online seems to have a minor volume bug on PC. The latest update to the game, which landed along with the standalone version of the game, has caused a few minor issues for PC users, namely, unusually low volume when compared to everything else on their PC. Nonetheless, I want to add that RDO features an immersive language audio setting which has NPCs speaking in their native language. There are some inconsistencies with some main characters speaking English but it's not out of the realm of possibility that some learned the language. All-in-all, I appreciate the effort that went into something like this and hope to see it more often.

Final Verdict
A much slower-paced affair than the madcap GTA Online, RDO is already loaded with activities and modes and provides a promising foundation for a long-lasting multiplayer experience. The PvP modes have a tendency to frustrate but the co-op shines, and RDO is expansive enough that you can ignore entire swathes of it and still have more than enough to keep you occupied. If you haven’t dipped in yet, round up some friends and saunter in. It’s well worth a visit.
