If I didn't play on a Steam Deck and therefore had no penalties for restarting battles, I would have absolutely hated the sheer amount of RNG bad luck this game throws at you. Once you get into the later game there is absolutely 0 room for error. A single enemy attacking you and giving you a disease throws off 30 minutes of a run - it's a joke. Through the power of Linux though I was able to avoid Mewgenics' own Mr. Resetti ripoff and essentially have infinite chances at any fight. Even with this, the game is BRUTAL.

What's not a joke is how much content is in this game and how it still continues to be fun even after 100 hours. This is some of the best bang for your buck you can ever experience in a strategy game and I recommend it as a must play for anybody who likes the genre. Two paws up for Mewgenics baybee

How does one dude make an MMO this simple, fun and challenging while AAA studios with teams of hundreds of people can't make anything even remotely coherent?

Imagine what a guy like this could do with resources

18 years ago I bought MHF2 on the PSP and discovered one of my favorite videogame franchises of all time, 9 months ago I watched it die with the release of Monster Hunter Wilds.

It was a good run, but I have absolutely no faith that Capcom can correct the ship after this abomination. I thought Gen U was peak, then World came along and blew me away. Rise was a step back but still pretty fun. Wilds I quit after 25 hours with no desire to ever return. I'll always keep my fond memories of autorunning though a pointless open world on my chocobo though

I've played over 7 hours in story mode and haven't actually played a single soccer match yet, I am almost in complete disbelief.

If you love fetch quests, rock paper scissors combat (literally, not figuratively) and tons of minigames that are neither fun nor difficult then this is the game for you.

Don't make my mistake and think you're getting a good sports RPG/Sim, you're just ultimately getting a bad anime game.

I'm constantly searching for new games to put into the rotation that support up to 8 local players and I'm happy to say that Knock Em Out was so fun it should be a permanent staple from now on during game nights.

Controller support was perfect and simple plug n play, the game was easy to learn but has some more technical aspects (such as parries) and most importantly was so fun and chaotic that everyone loved it. The first time someone with no arms or legs ended up winning the round was hilarious.

Only con I would say is that the number of maps available is still pretty small and after an hour of play you'll have rotated through them all a couple of times. Hoping that with continued support the devs can add some more maps before the year mark of release. I wouldn't buy unless you do have a large amount of local players to play with, because you won't find anyone online.

Shogun Showdown was sick, and genuinely kept me absorbed as my main Steam Deck squeeze for almost a month. A fresh take on 2D turned based strategy that was both really easy to learn and very tricky to finally wrap my melon around.

The only downside seemed to be after a certain point, the strategy ended up being the same for almost every run. Difficulty didn't matter much, and the character you chose didn't matter much. The uniqueness of the combat definitely contributed to how limited it was and it just didn't have the pull of other, better roguelikes to keep me chasing playtimes in the 50+ hour range.

Still, $15 should get you easily a 30 hour run before you start to get bored and believe be you will be completely hooked until that point. If not for Balatro, this would be the best indie game of the year for me.

I dunno how I stumbled upon this game and I definitely don't know how I put 60 hours into it so quickly but it's been one of the most pleasant surprises I have EVER found on Steam.

The design, humor and overall feel of the world remind me of much older indie games made in the 2000s (Things like Adventure Quest, Dink Smallwood or Peasant's Quest). There is no consistency to the world at all, you meet Santa early on and the first real boss you face is a giant mech called a GUN-D4M. Despite all this, it never really feels childish and it actually ends up being pretty endearing how attached you get to the characters that are there.

The gameplay isn't groundbreaking or innovative in any way, shape or form but it is the most polished Zelda/Secret of Mana style RPG combat I have ever seen. It excels in delivering nothing new, but instead delivering a perfect iteration of what you already love. What else could you ask for? I played the entire game on hard and found some of the fights took me 1-2 hours worth of attempts. I love that. It never felt cheap, but it always felt earned. The level-up progression systems are awesome and I assume pretty varied, but I wouldn't know since I just played a 2h the entire time.

Bottom line: if you've ever bored of a classic Zelda/SoM clone before, you WON'T this time. This game just captures that fun factor in a way only a labor of love like this possibly can. It's a firm entry into my top 10 indie games of all time.

I only had to wait a week to find a game in 2024 that I absolutely loved, good sign!

Back to the Dawn is an RPG-lite with heavy life sim elements. It's hard to find anything to really compare it to, but if you enjoyed the flow of stuff like Punch Club, Game Dev Tycoon or even Stardew Valley you probably will find enjoyment here in Back to the Dawn. There was an old phone game called Prison Life RPG that I imagine the dev took inspiration from and just cranked it up to 11.

The depth is incredibly surprising. You have 21 days of in-game time to escape from prison via a variety of routes as well as a main plot that you may or may not participate in depending on the ending you go for. To get there, you can befriend what feels like 50 or so inmates, join one of 3 prison gangs, and decide what stats to level up as you dedicate your time. The gameplay loop is immensely addictive and you will find yourself saying "Just one more day" over and over.

The game is designed in such a way that you likely won't succeed your first time around, which is okay because the second playthrough will all the knowledge you've gained from the first is where the game truly shines. While the first go through the game you're stumbling around in the dark the next time you play you'll be a min-maxing machine and if you're anything like me, will discover that you missed more than half the game the first time through.

Great pixel art, great music, dialogue and character development for literally every inmate - this game just oozes polish.

Not a single joke about dropping the soap is a missed opportunity I feel
