people have eaten wheat from the very earliest times. we know this because grains of wheat have been found buried with pre-historic grave dwellers who lived 10,000 years ago. Grains of wheat have also been found in the tombs of Egyptian Pharohs buried over 6,000 years ago.

It is not just in the British Is;es, however, that wheat is grown. Wheat will grow at all heights from sea-level to 5000m (that's four times the height of Snowdon), and in the climates from the Arctic Circle down to the equator. This farmer is from the Sudan in Africa

If we laid all these firelds together, they would over 235 million hectares. This is ten times bigger than Great Britain!
