In it's current state I would NOT recommend this game.

I am a huge fan of Warband and was very excited to see that the developers have decided to show some love to this game. I saw the graphical upgrade (though slight) and the fact that they added an entire new single player experience (unlike Nepoleonic Wars) and needed to try it.

Unfortunately my excitement quickly turned to disapointment right at the start of the game.

-The menus barely work, multiple times the at the very begining of the game and during the game the menu options do not work as they are supposed to. Dialog between characters will bug out and not change properly in the menus the options for your party will bug out and not work properly just a mess of bad coding in this area

-Broken combat, the new addition of a fatuge system though quite interesting doesn't work right all the time. Your character will go from full fatuge to completely empty just by running into battle. The hitboxes on enemies have somehow gotten worse. Trying to connect an attack will seem to miss more often than land and for no real reason other than just because.

-Broken Progression, Warband itself offered what seemed to be scaling progression as you moved forward in the game. As your army got bigger and stronger so did the armies of opposing factions. In Viking Conquest how ever building an army to even fight bandits is more effort that it should be. Players (if not playing campaine) are placed randomly in a part of world and are expected to earn renown by doing favors for nobels and villagers of that area, after doing so only then can the player ask to be allowed to recruit men from the factions villages. BUT! To build up even an army of 20 men you need to have some sort of renown so they only way to find units is to travel to refuge camps and recruit the most basic level units and use them to do quests for the nobles and villagers. So after hours of scrouging together the weakest units in the game even when you build up enough renown to be given permission to recruite in a factions kingdom by the nobles each individual village also has to approve of you to do so...WHAT!? These barriers are so unnessisarry and tedious and cause progression to slowly crawl. Units also will barely level up with combat and the trainer perk unlike in Warband. So you will be stuff with a majority of your army being basic level units when the rest of the Nobles have mid to high level units in their armies and usually ranging from 100 - 300 men.

There is no way to compete with these AI characters. The amount of theves and bandits have been dropped dramatically and offer almost no experience. So the only logical way to progress it seems is to after jumping through numeras hoops gathering a huge army of basic units and challenge other Lords and Nobles and just pray that you will have enough units survive the battle to eventually level up.

Currently I would have to say to pass on this expanison at least for the price it's at right now. Wait until a sale and try to snag it on the cheap and just hope the developers fix this issues. Currently as it stands Viking Conquest is worse than the original Warband and that's a real shame
