The trebuchet has superior qualities to it, yes. But over all, I would go for the classic catapult. The trebuchet lacks mobility. To move it, you have to spend quite a while disassembling and reassembling it. The catapult is much easier to move. It is also smaller. The trebuchet is much larger, making it an easier target. The catapult is much smaller, Therefore allowing more convenient storage, and a smaller overall target to hit. The trebuchet can launch a 90 kilograms projectile 300 metres, yes. The catapult does launch smaller projectiles smaller distances. HOWEVER it again, is huge. This means it costs much more resources to create. You could have multiple catapults to one trebuchet. If they take down your one trebuchet, you have no siege. If they manage to take down one of your catapults, which is harder to do so, by the way, you will still have multiple siege weapons, thus the siege goes on. Which is why I believe catapults were the superior siege choice
