Memes aside, this game is very well made. The sardonic gallows humour reminds me of Jhonen Vasquez' works, particularly Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. It also manages to be genuinely unnerving without relying purely on the shock value of the taboos the game is infamous for now; the toxic codependency of Ashley and Andrew is extremely well done. Watching the regular interactions between the siblings disturbed me far more than the copious amounts of cannibalism.

In regards to the gameplay, it's a regular RPGMaker horror game that leans far more heavily into VN influences. Not that I have any complaints, as I knew the dev mainly worked in Ren'py before this and I'm also fond of VNs. There aren't any frustrating puzzles like other RPGMaker horrors and I like how one makes route choices through overworld actions. The artstyle is very good too! The drab, limited palette is used effectively and I like the hand-drawn on paper look the game has. Music was alright but I didn't find it super standout. Not that it was bad or anything, though hopefully with the game's spike in popularity the dev will have the means to improve the music production for the next chapters.

I'm very pleasantly surprised by this game and I look forward to chapter 3!

I sure do love it when developers remove and censor content years after release when the original team's gone! The developers have absolutely broken my trust. Why would I ever get anything else from them when odds are it'll get butchered against my will in a few years?

ADDENDUM: EASY GOTY 2023

By far some of, if not the best worldbuilding I've seen in an RPG. Every single NPC is named and their dialogue changes with the events in the story (which is excellent btw), it's simply incredible how alive the world feels. All the characters are well written and developed and the ending had me buy SC in a heartbeat. Play this ASAP!
