Around 1892, a school was opened in a small temporary shed in the present sykes station area of Kolhapur. It was in the form of primary middle school & special class (English medium). Prince Shivaji & Rajaram were the founder students. As such Dr. Irwin & Lady Irwin shouldered the responsibility of educating them. Later, due to the sudden demise of Dr. Irwin in 1909, Lady Irwin took the both princes to England and looked after their education.
