It's like Double Dragon with the graphical style of Plants vs. Zombies.

Also, Jesus.

Pretty fun game to kill some time with here and there.

Improves on the original game in almost every regard, while offering a unique take on the Rapture story.

Very pretty game with an interesting story, and my praise ends there.

This game oversimplifies the mechanics of the first two BioShock games, removing a lot of features entirely. Vigors are a dumbed-down version of Plasmids that are not tangential to the plot of the game like Plasmids were to BioShock (though this is cheaply tied together in the last DLC). Hacking is gone entirely. Tonics have been replaced with a much smaller variety of equipable clothing. Vending machines are horrendously expensive. Skylines are pretty silly for methodically dispatching most enemies at ease. The game also treats the player with an innovative and never-before-seen regenerating shield on top of their standard health bar.

Does not have the same sense of wonder and discovery of the previous games, mostly because Infinite is, dare I say, a completely different genre from the other BioShock games - it's an action FPS, and as far as I am concerned, the only thing that makes it remotely similar to BioShock is a brief tie-in with Rapture, and "BIOSHOCK:" being in the title of the game.

I'd recommend it for a $10 Steam sale, not much more than that. The Burial at Sea DLC brings you back to Rapture in the most awful way possible - playing with the same terrible, console-treated mechanics that you had to deal with in the main campaign of Infinite. UPDATE 3/25/14: BoS Episode 2 does a little better in this regard, forcing the player to adopt a stealthier style of play unlike the running and gunning of Infinite and DLC 1.

I honestly don't get the critical circlejerk about this game. It is easily the least fun entry in the series. For reference, I had played the first and second BioShock games within a period of 72 hours prior to playing Infinite.

Update 3/25/14: Burial at Sea Episode 2 fills a lot of holes and ties a lot of plotlines together, almost to the point where it feels like filling plotholes was the only reason this DLC was created. Nevertheless, playing as Elizabeth is a lot more interesting than Booker's chapter of the Rapture DLC, and the storyline of the second episode is a lot more important than the first. Considering that the second DLC offers a "recap" of Booker's DLC, only purchasing Episode 2 is entirely feasible.

Devolver added custom map support, as well as "working" multiplayer. I would still run it with eDuke32.

One of the most entertaining dungeon crawlers you'll ever play. No worrying about inventory or any of that crap, just collect spells and cast them, on enemies and on your friends, on purpose or by accident. The developers recently added full support for gamepads to Magicka, and it plays like a dream. Spell bindings are 10000% more intuitive on analog sticks than they are with a keyboard. Plus, you can plug in four gamepads and play with your friends on the same screen, arcade-style.

The best fantasy-based friendly-fire simulator around is even better.

The definitive form of DXHR. Incorporates all of the previously released DLC into the timeline of the original game.

The weapons that you normally get by purchasing them through DLC (Silenced Sniper Rifle, Double Barrel Shotgun) are found in various locations throughout the game, instead of you starting the game with them (removes the "pay to win" aspect). The Grenade Launcher is still a mission reward after you rescue Tracer Tong, and you can still purchase Remote-Detonated Explosives and Automatic Unlocking Devices at any shop.

Notes on the way the Missing Link DLC is integrated: Basically, you lose all of the stuff you've acquired throughout the entire game when you begin The Missing Link. After completing The Missing Link, an extra moment has been spliced into the game, where you are left standing next to the exit (which takes you back to the main storyline of the game), and there is a weapons container next to you as well. Upon opening this box, you recieve all of your original Praxis points and items back (you also get to keep anything you got while playing The Missing Link).

The improved boss battles are just that - a huge improvement. Remember in the original Deus Ex, when you could kill Walton Simons just by electrocuting him on the rails of a minecart track? You can do things like that in the revised version of DXHR, as well. You're able to dispatch bosses by means of turrets, poison gas, and patrolling sentry robots, in addition to the good old-fashioned "shoot them in the face" strategy. Sadly, you can't just flat-out ignore the bosses like you could in the original DX; you have to kill them for "story purposes".

All in all, if you haven't played Deus Ex: Human Revolution yet, first, what is wrong with your brain, and second, the Director's Cut is the only version you should purchase.

One of the most important PC games of the late 90's. The mother of survival-horror as a genre.
