My settings are not random. They are fine-tuned to match how my hand actually works — forearm length, grip style, stopping mechanics, and overall playstyle. Copying settings without understanding the mechanics behind them has never made sense to me.

One major limitation in Counter-Strike is the in-game sensitivity menu, which allows only two decimal places. At 400 DPI, a sensitivity of 1.91 results in 764 eDPI, while 1.92 jumps to 768. That difference is already significant. To align sensitivity precisely with natural hand movement, more granularity is required. That is why using an autoexec.cfg file is essential if you care about consistency and precision.

Fun fact.

The average eDPI of the world’s top CS2 players in 2023 was around 765. This is not meant to encourage copying professionals, but to show how wide the viable precision window really is at the highest level.

Understanding eDPI and SRAV.

eDPI (effective DPI) is the product of mouse DPI and in-game sensitivity. Responsiveness matters, but so does SRAV (Smoothness-Related Accuracy Variance) — a measure of how precisely a mouse sensor tracks fast, dynamic movements such as flicks and micro-adjustments.

SRAV varies with DPI. Some sensors perform best at 400 DPI, others at 800 or 1600. For example, with a Razer DeathAdder V3 and a target of 1000 eDPI, the lowest SRAV is achieved at 1600 DPI, making 1600 DPI with 0.625 sensitivity the most precise configuration in that case.

In Counter-Strike, margins of 0.1% or 0.2% are not theoretical. Holding Long on Dust2, peeking Mid on Inferno, or fighting for Banana often comes down to stopping accuracy. Those moments are decided by precision, not averages.

Hipfire vs ADS.

There are two fundamentally different aiming models in Counter-Strike, and mixing them is the main reason players constantly tweak their settings.

Hipfire-driven aiming is based on muscle memory. The hand executes a learned movement, and the eye only confirms the shot. The stopping point of the hand matters more than FOV or zoom. This model works the same with or without zoom, which is why many memory-based players use a zoom_sensitivity_ratio of 1.00. This is how I aim.

ADS-driven aiming is based on visual correction. The eye leads and the hand follows. Zoom changes perceived speed, so ADS sensitivity must be matched to FOV. Common values include 0.93, 0.97, 0.82, or in rare cases 1.10. None of these are better — they simply fit a different aiming model.

If you aim memory-based and constantly adjust ADS, you will fight your own muscle memory. If you aim visually and force 1.00, you will never feel fully in control. There is no universal best setting — only the one that matches how you aim.

Just older now — and definitely slower, more deaf, and more blind.

These days I am a retired grandpa-aimer, showing up for one highlight per match. Two on a good day. I do not care about ELO anymore — I play purely for fun.
