When compared to other Octopath games, this one is missing character depth (some get a brief introduction when recruited and that's it, you don't go deeper into their story at all after that) and secret jobs (all characters have a fixed job except for the protagonist who gets the basic 8). Buuuuut you do get a VERY good main story and some interesting customization options for your party (you can't equip secondary jobs but you can equip a few extra skills on your party members).
Overall a fun change from the regular Octopath formula.

I really gave this game a chance because I like jrpgs and most Saga games, but Emerald is SO bad.
I'm currently on my second run and I'm struggling to resist the level of cringe of this game, charcters are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ retarded, plots makes no sense, dialogues are stupid, it's like the devs just glued together a bunch of concepts and threw them into the game. If you played Scarlet Grace you know what I'm talking about, but this time is even worse.
The system is also waaay to convoluted, the whole race system is so unnecesary, by the time you start to get the most of your characters you are probably already finishing your story and when you move onto a new one you will probably have different races that have nothing to do with your last play through. Sure, it's one of the best "introduction to the franchise games" but not because it friendly to newcomers, it's because most battles are so easy that you don't even need to understand the mechanics, you can probably get away with your starting fomation and equiping no roles.
It's deffinitely not worth it, don't waste your time with this game unless you are a really hardcore SaGa fan and can overlook all the flaws.

Good ol' point and click adventure. It still keeps some bad things from the old flash days where you have to hover the screen to search for hidden clickable areas or try all items on an npc to see what he needs.

Good but not great.
The gameplay is good for a real time strategy rpg, but the character progressions all over the place. You get most characters skills around chapter 3 (there are 7 chapters in total), so after that there's no real feeling of "growth" other than buying better equipment and eventually buying character perks (which are really scarce). Not to mention that the rooster is about 16 charcters but you only get to bring 4 in each mission.
Overall a good casual game if you are into tactics rpgs, just don't expect anything amazing.
