so far, this game is fun, but as someone who loves old rpg horror and replayed pocket mirror right before this, this game treats you like you have the attention span of a goldfish with ADHD.
i dont need a quest alert to tell me to leave the room after i got the keys needed to leave after it told me "its a key!" when i found a key. while pocket mirror (and all rpg horror tbh) treats you like a latchkey kid who only sees their parents once a week, LGTS is the helicopter mom that wraps their kid in bubble wrap. one can say that the former is too hard for new players, and thts fair, but at least pocket mirror respected me as a player. hopefully it isnt like this all game

Very Minor Spoilers, anything more than that is under a spoiler tag.

This is more of an "okay" review than a "its bad" review. I never write reviews but this game has potential and I love the creepy cute aesthetic so I have an attachment to it. Its like I want to see it do better in its life. I bought and started to play this game Day 1 or Day 2 so I wont mention the bugs that were bad (and they were BAD) but fixed when my playthrough ended.

I played on the Steam Deck. You only have to worry about invoking the keyboard if you want to input a name for your followers or submit a bug report. The bug reporting didnt work for me but that was before they patched it, so maybe it might be fixed now.

Cult of the Lamb is pretty fun and the concept on paper is interesting, but the implementation of dungeon roguelite and management sim are really forced together to make this game. Towards the end I found myself viewing my cult as a liability and a chore since they would always do some ♥♥♥♥ while I was gone on a crusade. Its also very easy to overlevel you cult on normal difficulty: I was producing so much devotion that I maxed out my cult before I beat the third boss so I had way more money than I knew what to do with. If you pick the correct cult traits ( False Idols, Belief in Absolution, and Good Die Young if you make sure to kill off your elder members, which you should be doing as they only consume resources and do not generate any. ) its very easy to make sure you have a high faith. Doctrines arent very impactful on the cult - they determine your rituals and change how you cult reacts to some decisions you choose. I wish it was easier to edit the buildings in your cult - for example a dragging select to move or delete multiple structures would be sweet. Out of curiosity I tried to get a follower to the highest level that I possibly could - I got them to level 26. High level followers dont produce anything special while alive - their value is shown when you sacrifice them - but Im not that annoyed by that considering how the game encourages you to use your followers' deaths to advance your cult. I also dont mind how the relationships between the followers and you are shallow - youre a cult leader using their lives for you and your gods gain. I think its supposed to be parasocial. I do not want to have much attachment to my followers because it makes it harder to sacrifice them lol.

I wish there was an infinite dungeon mode. After you beat each Old Bishop, you can revisit their realms. I discovered that the max number of floor bosses you can beat is 3, which was a bit disappointing. The dungeons don't have enough diversity of mobs in my opinion and the overall strat for it is "get the axe/gauntlets/hammer, any curse you can push back the mobs for a form of CC, and as many tarot cards as possible." Also, maybe its just me, but the only fleece (modifications you can add to your dungeon runs) worth using was the trade your red hearts for 1.5x blue hearts. The rest didnt look good enough.

The game is very beautiful though with interesting characters designs. I love Helob and Haro a ton. The environment is captivating and Im digging the diorama style perspective. I wouldnt spend $25 on this game though, get it if its on sale.
