Amazing game, I haven't been this hooked on a large scale multiplayer FPS since Battlefield 1. The maps have a lot of complexity, but not so much that they're overwhelming to learn, they allow for different styles of gameplay. Unlike Battlefield 2042, there aren't any grappling hooks or wingsuits, so you always have a gamesense of where the other team are and where they might be, so no unpleasant surprises, you can actually approach this game with intent to improve because everyone has the same movement ability. If you liked the older Battlefield titles, then Delta Force is definitely for you.

Alright, I’ve got some thoughts on The Forgotten City, and trust me, it’s a wild ride through ancient Rome that’ll have you questioning your life choices and morality faster than you can say “Golden Rule.”

First off, let’s talk about the vibe. You wake up next to a river, and before you know it, you’re thrown into a mysterious underground city where the inhabitants are living under the constant threat of turning into gold statues if anyone commits a sin. Yeah, you heard that right. It’s like if The Purge had a baby with a history lesson. The stakes are high, and the atmosphere is thick with tension.
As you wander through the city, you’ll notice that it’s not just the living residents who are watching your every move. The numerous golden statues scattered throughout the place are frozen in expressions of horror and despair, and sometimes, they’ll whisper creepy hints to you. Imagine walking past a statue and hearing it murmur your name—definitely not the kind of thing you want to experience while trying to solve a mystery. And don’t even get me started on the unsettling feeling when you hear the grinding noise of a statue’s head turning to watch you. It’s like being in a horror movie where the statues are the main antagonists, and you’re just trying to figure out how to get out of this mess.

The characters you meet are just as intriguing as the setting. Each one has their own backstory, and you’ll find yourself digging through their secrets like a nosy neighbor. The dialogue is sharp and often laced with dark humor, which is a nice touch considering the heavy themes at play. You’ll find yourself empathizing with these characters, even as you’re trying to figure out who might betray you next.
But beware! Some quests lead you down paths that get downright creepy. There’s a particular storyline that involves a merchant with a plan that spirals into something nightmarish. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say it involves a lot of moral ambiguity and some seriously unsettling moments. The game does a great job of transitioning from light-hearted banter to chilling revelations, keeping you on your toes throughout.

Now, let’s talk about the time loop mechanic. You’ll find yourself reliving the same day over and over, which sounds tedious but actually works brilliantly here. Each loop allows you to gather more information, learn about the residents, and make different choices. It’s like being stuck in a really intense episode of Groundhog Day, but instead of trying to win over your crush, you’re trying to save a city from turning to gold.
The game encourages you to experiment with your choices, and the consequences of your actions can lead to some pretty dark outcomes. You might find yourself wondering how far you’re willing to go to save the people in the city, or if you’re okay with bending the rules just a little.

In conclusion, The Forgotten City is a beautifully crafted game that combines a gripping narrative with a haunting atmosphere. It’s not just a mystery to solve; it’s a deep dive into morality and the human condition, all wrapped up in a package that’s as engaging as it is creepy.

I’d give it a solid 10/10. So, if you’re ready to explore a city where every choice could lead to disaster and every statue might just be watching you. Just be prepared for some spine-tingling moments along the way!

Early Access Review
Pretty fun loot-based RPG for a very reasonable price.
Beautiful graphics, nice maps, and it looks like the developers are committed and adding constant updates.
It's still only early-access but already very playable. My only gripe so far is the inability to block while running, as it doesn't make much sense why you can't move with your shield up.
One more thing, just found out quite late that on the skill point level-up screen, you can scroll down for more upgrade options. Maybe the developers could make this clearer as it is easy to miss.

First time I played it for a couple of hours, found it too verbose, tried returning it, Steam refused. Gave it another go after a few weeks, got hooked when I learned to enjoy the story-telling rather than just aiming to rush through it. Once you collect enough spells and weapons, the turn-based combat starts to become fun with the different strategies you can apply. I got thoroughly addicted to the story and combat. Thanks Steam for not letting me return the game.

Interesting story with the different factions, with your interactions affecting the story and outcome.

The weapon customization allows plenty of room for creativity to adapt to your style of play.

My only major gripe is with the combat that turns into a bit of a grind near the end of the game. Firstly, it has to be said that the animal whisperer ability is really overpowered when leveled up to 7 with the perk that increases their constitution. There were parts of the game where I could just let my team hang back out of harm's way and let all the animals do the work!
Secondly, there aren't many defensive options in combat, ambush and defend are the two active choices, so if the enemy launches explosives at you, there's no way to counter it. There are no shield devices, so if a bomb goes off and wipes out some of your team, your only hope is that you have a team member left to revive everyone. Not that fun.
Lastly, the offensive options are limited to what you have in your quick slots which average to three slots. Since you can't equip or unequip the quick slots during battle, it means that you have to plan ahead before you enter combat, but then it leaves you with a very generic setup and doesn't give you much room for experimentation or adaption to unique enemies.

Having said that, I really enjoyed the voice acting and soundtrack, and on top of the story, those were the things that kept me playing. As a turn-based RPG, it just doesn't have enough variety to keep the combat interesting for me.
