I was going to write a long, in-depth review about how Blizzard utterly ruined this game, but I decided to just play better games instead of wasting the energy. I'd recommend doing the same, tbh.

While this game is by no means a masterpiece, if you are tired of generic, unimpactful shooters that have all the depth of a poorly written soap opera, then you should, by all means, buy it. It leaves a huge impact on you from the first few decisions you make. After one section that I cannot elaborate upon because of massive spoilers, I became physically ill watching the fruits of my actions; I've played several shooters before, and this is one of the first that really made me think, "Wow...I really am a horrible person for doing this", even though that particular part of the game forces you do make that specific action. It is a military shooter that is highly critical of the military and of war in general, which is quite the oddity in video games in general. Unfortunately, the singleplayer and its message are undermined by the tacked-on multiplayer, which 2K apparently insisted on. Don't blame Yager for this, however; 2K had another developer, Darkside Game Studios, make the multiplayer. It was completely out of Yager's hands. That said, I have not played it, so I cannot comment on the quality of the multiplayer. Anyway...the story is, overall, quite good. It suffers from a bit of the normal ridiculousness that many modern AAA games have in them, but aside from that, I don't remember any problems in the story. The gunplay is smooth, or at least what I can remember of it. I'm planning on replaying it in the near future, so I'll update this part of the review when I get to it. It can be said, though, that ultimately, the gameplay doesn't matter that much, except for a few main points, like using the mortar while assaulting The Gate and making one of the many choices in the campaign. The main draw of this game is the story, without a doubt.

If you try the demo before playing the full game, please note that it's incredibly misleading. It does not show what the game is really about, and to be fair, it was intended to be that way. It was most likely designed to lure in CoD and other typical shooter fans; it does not showcase even a bit of the game's true essence.

I never had any problems with crashes or bugs (except for getting physically stuck in a few areas and having to restart at checkpoints), and it runs quite well on my GTX 770 and i5-4670K. I felt no need to remap the controls, but that will obviously vary depending on your preferred setup. As I didn't have a 360 controller when I played this game, I cannot comment on the controller support. The graphics, while not mindblowing, are quite good on the highest settings, and I do not recall encountering any framerate issues. All in all, it is quite a good PC port, in my experience.

TL;DR: If you like singleplayer games with intense stories and want a new shooter experience that will leave you hating yourself and questioning your own morality, pick this game up. It's not one you'll forget about anytime soon.
