The sheer number of articles trying to say that this game setting a new standard for video games is a bad thing should really tell you how good it is. Larian released a game with an absolutely gripping story and compelling characters, hundreds of hours of content that could see you finding new things even through multiple playthroughs, and a fun and intuitive combat system that is close enough to 5e D&D that seasoned players will be familiar with it yet simple enough for anyone unfamiliar to pick it up easily.

Baldur's Gate 3 allows the player enough freedom of choice to do some really insane things, just like playing D&D and asking the DM if you can do something stupid. Some of the things you can do seem so obscure that nobody would ever think to try it, but Larian accounted for it anyway. They are in every sense the cool DM that allows just enough stupidity to allow the players to make their own fun without letting it derail the campaign too much.

In short, buy this game. If you like D&D, or if you like Dragon Age: Origins, or if you just like story-driven games or turn-based combat in general, buy this game. This is easily my Game Of The Year, and Larian is still listening to the community and adding small features and tweaks that are requested, making it even better with each update.

A lot of horror games rely on jumpscares to scare the player, but this game is different. The atmosphere built up by the ambient noise, the ghosts interacting with the environment, and the ever-present threat of death can make any situation scary. The larger maps in particular can see a group of people spending most of their time in the dark, hearing faint noises in the distance before someone screams over the radio that they got a temperature drop.

With the right group of people, this game has the potential to be one of the best games this year, and was made by just one person. I can't wait to see what the full release of this game will be like if the Early Access is this good.

I played this game in the beta, then took an extended break. When I returned, it was a whole new experience. I love the direction that DE is taking this game, and honestly it's one of the best on Steam. It's free-to-play game, and it has quality I wouldn't even expect of huge companies. Great work, space mom.
