MY RATING AS OF LAUNCH DAY: OVERALL MIXED

Gonna do a quickie review of this game without going into the "political" garbage that both sides of the argument have been on about lately. Note that I don't have much to say about the things in the "pros" list simply because they are that good. I don't have much to say about them other than that they are quality-assured.

Pros:
- Fantastic gameplay. Tight, responsive, easy to learn, and hard to master.
- Accessible: has one of the best fighting game tutorial/practice modes I've EVER used. Even allows for live viewing of frame data, etc.
- Great story mode, per usual with Mortal Kombat.
- Kustom Variations: adds so much gameplay kustomization, also allows the tweaking of AI using your variations.

Neutral:
- TONS of visual kustomization (PRO), but is hindered by a weak loot box progression system (CON). While the currency used for them isn't for sale (I'm pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong), it's still lazy and makes you rely heavily on RNG to unlock items you want.

Cons:
- Bugs: I tweaked some settings after getting a crash once and have had no problems since then, but the fact that so many people are affected by them is inexcusable. (If your game looks bad or runs poorly, turn off TAA. I set mine to FXAA and it fixed almost everything performance related.)
- Microtransactions: used to help progression in Towers of Time. The difficulty in the towers encourages their use. Even though NR stated that a patch is coming to fix the difficulty, it is still annoying.
- Online: almost every single action in this game requires connection to NR servers. I haven't experienced any outages yet, but it is an inconvenience for those who want to play offline.
- Pre-Order Shenanigans: At least with the pre-order character in MKX, he was effectively just a DLC character. Shao Khan in this game is IN the story mode as a COMPLETE kharacter, fought AGAINST in the story mode, and is still locked behind a paywall. NR also advertised on their twitter about multiple betas for pre-ordering, among other things, but neglected to mention PC was not apart of this deal. Only by checking their website would you have known.
- Post-game singleplayer progression: DESIGNED to steal money. Warner Bros is the publisher behind Shadow of War, so that should give you an idea.
- The Krypt: If the gear and materials in it weren't random loot box garbage that is not worth the koins to buy, and was more akin to MKX's in terms of unlocks, it would be fine.
- 30fps locks: The Krypt, fatalities, fatal blows, etc. are all locked at 30fps. Can be pretty jarring for some.
- Frost: she is unlockable early on in story mode, but is advertised as DLC on the store page with no mention that she's UNLOCKABLE like an HOUR into the game, WITHOUT having to spend $6.

I really want to recommend this game, because I don't think it deserves like a 4/10 simply because its gameplay is so damn good. However, until NR can learn to respect its PC players with a functional port and have a publisher less scummy, wait for this game to go on sale.
