Return of the Obra Dinn is one of those rare games that respects your intelligence and then actively tests whether you deserve that respect.

There are no waypoints, no hand-holding, no “press X to solve mystery.” You are given a ledger, a pocket watch, and a ship full of corpses, and the game more or less says: figure it out. And it actually means that.

What makes Obra Dinn exceptional isn’t just the mystery, but the structure of deduction. Every conclusion must be justified by evidence—accents, uniforms, hammocks, footwear, relationships, timing. You’re not guessing; you’re building a mental model and stress-testing it constantly. When the game confirms a set of identities, it’s not because you progressed a quest—it’s because your reasoning crossed a confidence threshold. That feedback loop is incredibly satisfying.

The visual style looks gimmicky at first, but quickly reveals itself as functional brilliance. The stark, high-contrast aesthetic strips away noise and forces focus on silhouettes, positions, and details that actually matter. It’s not nostalgia—it’s constraint used intelligently.

Narratively, Obra Dinn is fragmented and non-linear, but that’s the point. The story isn’t told to you; it’s reconstructed by you. And when the full picture finally locks into place, it feels earned in a way very few games manage.

This is not a relaxing game. It demands attention, patience, and a willingness to be wrong repeatedly. But if you enjoy systems that reward careful observation, logical consistency, and persistence, Return of the Obra Dinn is close to flawless.

Verdict:
A masterclass in design restraint and player-driven reasoning. Not for everyone—but for the right person, unforgettable.

I’ve had a good amount of fun with Necesse, especially in the early stages. The settlement-building system is one of the game’s strongest points — it’s satisfying to recruit NPCs, set up houses, and assign them to different jobs. Having workers take care of farming, crafting, and other tasks gives the world a nice sense of life and progression.

That said, once you get past the early game, the progression starts to feel less rewarding. After a while, it feels like you’re just moving from boss to boss without much need for mining, crafting, or meaningful exploration in between. The gear upgrades and rewards start to feel less impactful, and the mid-to-late game loop doesn’t quite capture the same sense of discovery as the beginning.

For the sale price of around $10, Necesse is definitely worth picking up — there’s plenty of charm and solid mechanics to enjoy. But with just the 1.0 content, it left me wanting more. The foundation is great, but it feels like there’s a missing layer of depth or incentive to keep pushing forward once you’ve seen most of what the game offers.

A great tale full of symbolism, analogies and themes of the darkest and most human feelings every one of us will experience.

The story of this game is a 10/10 going through the highs and lows of what it means to be human, and will be remembered as of the greats.

The music in this game is also top notch, probably the greatest video game soundtrack I have ever heard, and is used perfectly to enhance all aspects of the game including the story, combat and exploration.

The gameplay of the game is good, although in expert mode it came down to having to perfectly parry every attack which can get tedious.

There is however a massive issue with this game and it comes in the form of a massive inbalance towards the later half of the game. Past a certain point in the story, the rest of the explorable world is unlocked and allows the player to get extremely broken. This results in a massive power creep that can trivialize a vast portion of the lategame (which should be peak) sections. If it were not for this questionable pacing, the game would be a 10/10.

All in all this game is still a solid 9/10 and a must play for all. :)

This game not only met my 8 year wait expectations, but exceeded them.

For $20 you could go buy a single dlc for a triple A game that may net a few hours of enjoyment or you could get this masterpiece.

Its pretty good, i mean the bosses are easy as ♥♥♥♥ but the story is pretty dope.

Before you creditors come after me, I did play the game on hard mode and yes its still easy, and no I did not abuse a broken build.

The fourth act is also too dragged on and I was max level way too early and it ruined the pacing.
Also it lagged ;p

I would buy it because its pretty dope but also know its not perfect. You can compare it to an expensive restaurant Well-Done steak. The developers had the right idea, just the wrong execution. Therefore I am going to bed now ngl im kinda tired but yeah this review is over yeah this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick 10/10 lets ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go ok imma go to sleep now.

Early Access Review
- Terribly optimised
- 0 Enemy Variety
- Game has awful balancing
- Base building has some issues with snapping

Overall the game feels like it just stole a whole bunch of ideas from a bunch of games, without adding anything truly unique apart from the "Enshrouded" mechanic, which is honestly pretty ♥♥♥♥.

edit:

my buddy Tal said this game is the best, so I decided to change the review to positive. The enemy types are sick and also you can glide apparently which is also pretty sick. 9/10
