Very good game. Don't pay for it, it is not owned or developed by Atari and does not help the devs in any way.

It's a bit rough around the edges compared to the original version, some of the new features are a bit unpolished. It's good, though. Halcyon 6 is awesome.

Now that it has graphics, it's like an actual game or something!

Despite having certain unfixed issues, it's still the definitive story-generating game. Rimworld doesn't even come close in the level of detail and believability in the stories it creates.

It's far less game-y than Rimworld. In Rimworld, things happen because the game thinks it'd be good for gameplay if they happened, while in DF everything happens as the result of deep chains of events tracing back to the beginning of the world a hundred simulated years ago.

It's also totally user-unfriendly and annoying at times, and pretty slow-paced. It's really what you make of it. If you get into the story aspect it's the best game ever, but it won't present an awesome gameplay experience if you're not interested in those aspects.

There are some awesome mechanical things you can do with water and lava and traps and things, though.

You pretty much have to play it with the DFHack utility for it to be properly playable.

A pretty gruelling experience. Some cases are simple-as to solve with the clues given, others are basically impossible but give the same reward.
Breaking into people's houses and workplaces for valuables and perk injector things is more rewarding than solving the actual cases, which can involve such things as:
* Searching every storey of a 12 storey building for a CCTV room since they're not marked on the map only to find that it only has the CCTV footage for some of the floors.
* Scanning every one of the fingerprints at a crime scene only to only ever find the victim's and their partner's, every time.
* Trying to read writing in blood written on the corner of a wall so it clips through the corner and you can only see half of it.
* Trawling through dozens of vaguely threatening emails to and from every character that amount to nothing.

It's probably a skill issue, but y'know. There's too much brute-forcing involved when you have no solid leads.

Games where npcs have schedules and lives in a procedurally generated world are always doomed like this one, because 90% of development efforts have to go towards creating the world, and there's very little time left to make the game fun.

Early Access Review
While it seems on face value a bit like another cookie-cutter 'rimworldlike', most of the focus of the game is on its unique water mechanics which sets it apart more than I expected. It's very satisfying irrigating the map and terraforming and building up your colony.
You can build some pretty awesome plumbing and contraptions, especially with the Iron Teeth faction.

It's quite good! I like the vibes. There are times where you'd run out of water despite having a well in every possible location forcing you to advance to the next level by adding citizens you can't currently support to unlock cisterns, which is a bit rough.

It seems a bit out of place to call the people 'subjects' when the rest of the game paints them more as a community of people than the serfs of a lord, but that's a minor nitpick.

Seeing new areas come out of the ocean is very satisfying. I also love everything about the presentation of the cards.

Workers and Resources is THE definitive city builder and logistics game.
It's probably the best city builder in the whole genre. Tons to do, managing every part of your nation in tons of detail. It's difficult to master but you don't have to be really good at it to do fine.

I kinda like it, but I wish it came with another story. It seems like 11 bit is trying to pivot to a sandbox colony builder and away from story campaigns.

Frostpunk 2 would have been so much better without being tethered to Frostpunk 1 and coming with the expectation of a good story.

The original and the best! The game is pretty good, but the vibe of the music, FX and writing is absolutely unmatched in anything I've ever played. It's just awesome.

This might be the only Paradox DLC I've ever bought and thought 'Wow, this is pretty awesome' and didn't regret getting at all. Administrative government and Adventurers really do add a lot to the experience.

The biggest flaw is that adventurers are able to raise a confusingly powerful army for free. Without any upkeep and a bunch of camp upgrades you can get a massive force, bigger and more powerful than any landed ruler and stomp whatever kingdom or empire you want, which shouldn't be possible as some random mercenary boss.

The obvious solution to this is just not play as a sellsword, but still. If you don't, it's pretty good!
