I previously posted a pretty harsh, negative review of this, and I kind of regret it. Having given it another try, and finally completed the campaign, I wanted to leave a more positive review.

I stand by a lot of what I said, the game is hard. It's relentless, grindy, 1000 KM an hour. The Ai will use everything it's got available, all the time, but if you can hold on: It's so rewarding. Realising you've FINALLY got enough tanks massed to punch out the enemy's defences, is so satisfying. Realising that it's all just a matter of cleaning up, feels really good.

Tthis is NOT a game for the impatient. A speedrun will probably take the better part of a half a dozen hours. While the basic tactics are simple; build lots of tanks, smash them into the enemy base, and pray your deathblob is big enough to make it through the enemy's thick defences (and they really do LOVE their turrets), it takes a long time to get there. You need to nanny your harvesters, constantly switch back to base make sure your defences are holding, hunt enemy artillery that's sat just outside your defences' range. It's a lot. It's exhausting.

TL:DR,
Is it worth it?
If you love oldschool RTS, have plenty of patience, and are willing to grind it out, yes. I would say, maybe look for a more modern styled, faster paced game if you're not willing to spend 1+ hour on each mission.

Total score? 7.5/10. Made with love, easy to understand, hard to master, and definitely designed to make you sweat. It'll kick your butt the first few tries, but eventually, you'll work out how to kick it back, harder. Just stick with it.

InB4 Noob.

There's games, and then there's exercises in sadism.

This is an exercise in sadism.

The concept isn't bad, to be honest; and I don't mind the whole permadeath thing; but the difficulty curve is just above and beyond ridiculous. You can, and -usually will- die just from wandering around, because apparently your character is some sort of lizard who can't stand temperate climates.

This is just one of the many flaws; but the most glaring. This game punishes new players hard. It's very, very difficult to get into. I've yet to survive a single day game time. Unless you're willing to die hundreds of times, just to get to a reasonable point, you're better off not bothering.

Immensely frustrating, seldom rewarding. And even then, you're going to die and lose all your cool stuff, so why even bother?

TL:DR.
If you're the sort of person who likes post apocalyptia; and enjoys inserting thumbtacks into their perineum; this is your game.

If you enjoy post apocalyptia, but are sane, and don't feel like starting the same game ninety times just to get anywhere; look elsewhere for games.

Definitely not recommended.

:::::EDIT:::::

Okay, after doing a little work on my Rig; this is slightly more playable. From a technical standpoint at least.

What is still utterly galling, is the fact that matchmaking... well, it doesn't exist. Or, rather, it's so loosely applied that it might as well not. I'm level six, 'kay? Fair enough. Don't play it that often, not all that good, whatever, but; that shouldn't be an issue. Any game half way worth it's merit would have a matchmaking system that could pair me with other such players.

What happens instead, is that I end up paired with players who evidently do nothing except play this game. The fact that another player's level isn't made clear to you is rather suspicious. In any event, the players you come up against, will, 9/10 times, be signficantly higher levelled, with far better gear, and far more experience.
(inb4 noob, play game more, shut up etc; I have a real life, some of us have to.)

Perhaps it's due to the small player base, I don't know; but if Loadout ever wants to make it big with anyone other than elite gamers, it needs to get it's ♥♥♥♥ together with regards matchmaking.

Also; it's worth noting that this game is terrible for abuse. Not so much verbal abuse, or bullying, or whatever; since it's damn hard to send out a message when you're trying to avoid twenty missiles at once, but there's plenty of cheating, and it's really, really annoying; especially when the reporting system doesn't actually work.
::::EDIT::::

I first played this about six months back, and it started to wear thin with repeated crashes, the most galling of which occur the moment a match finishes. So, you spend half an hour rocket jumping around a highly nondescript map; trying not to go blind from frequent screen tearing and hopeless lagging; only for your hard earned rewards to be swept away the moment the match finishes.

So, that in mind; I uninstalled, and moved on, hoping the devs would get their act together, and at least patch up performance problems.

Six months later, in a misguided fit of nostalgia, I came back, hoping there'd been improvements. There haven't.
It still lags.
It still drags.
It still crashes the moment a match ends.

Now. That sucks. That REALLY sucks.

The annoying thing is though, this could be a really cool game. The graphic style, character designs, and the massive customisability options are awesome. I can run around as a delightfully plump woman, virtually naked, firing bullets everywhere! What's more do you need?

Well, actually; a little stability and support would be good.

Likewise, there's some serious rebalancing work that needs doing. This game is noob toob central. Sure, you can build dozens of different types of guns (don't beleive the game's blurb when it says billions of weapon customisation options, there's probably a few hundred, at the absolute most) people, by and large, only ever use one or two types. Games rapidly devolve into a rocket slinging fest, and it gets really, really boring, really really fast. It's overpowered for both you, and your foes.

However, despite my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tirade (and complaints from elsewhere) it seems unlikely that the devs will do anything to fix this game. They harp on incessantly about PS4 releases, and a SP campaign, but what about fixing the motor before you polish the bodywork?

Overall... probably 3/10, and then, only because I can run round as a pudgy cutie with a delightfully unkempt bikini line and a chaingun.

Early Access Review
Slow, 2d minecraft. That's essentially all I took away from this. I'm sad to say, but I was bored stiff within the first few minutes.

Considering this is in beta now, I'm very, very dissapointed with it's level of polish. I've played early alphas which are better prepped than this thing. There's no tooltips, no keybinding options, and considering its low end graphics, it's laggy as all hell.

Oh, and while I'm on about those graphics, there's a difference between retro pixels, and giving your players eye strain. This game doesn't seem to have that difference worked out.

Long story short? Not worth Eleven quid. If I could crank back time to before I bought it, I wouldn't even consider paying a fiver for it. Very poor effort. You want some open-world, crafty gaming? Go play Terrarria, or Even Minecraft. You'll appreciate those a lot more.
