Vanilla is crap as usual. The GEM2 Engine is good though and allows heavy modding.

Also the DLC spamming is disgusting to look at. They could have just made an amazing vanilla gameplay experience and sold copies with it.

Fighter combat (the foundation of the game) is crap. Fighters don't even attempt to make evasive maneouvres to stay alive. There's no point in modelling real ballistics (as we all asked for, for YEARS) if there's not going to be an attempt to model real fighter behaviour to respond to and interact with that complexity and simulation. It's a joke. Fighters stay locked in a formation (their relative positioning) even in the heat of combat. This is atrocious. Passive/aggressive doesn't affect this at all. So they sacrifice everything including themselves to maintain a shape that doesn't have any use. Formations are useless. Super arcadey. Also have you noticed that they all shoot at the same target and not the best target of opportunity? Likewise, I watched my ships ordered to dock just go in straight line to the mothership getting shot to pieces as they attempted to extract. They don't even TRY to stay alive with dodges and jinks. Homeworld 3 fighters are piloted by commercial airliner autopilot algorithms and are not remotely convincing. How can a 25 year old game be more believable and immersive and convincing than a brand new one?

There still is no ATTACK MOVE for capital ships in combat. If you tell an assault frigate to attack a target and then tell it to move, it not only discards your attack order but it forgets to face the target it's engaging. This is a pisstake and means the capital ship combat is a joke, too. In one mission there was a description of directional damage (GREAT!), but once again ships don't even RESPOND TO AND INTERACT with it by keeping their FRONT TOWARDS THE TARGET. This is a joke. Don't ever issue move orders to ships that are firing because they'll completely malfunction. Your capital ships are static turrets when combat begins - this is a rule for you now. This is infuriating and rage inducing. Homeworld 1 is 25 years old now.

Ships (the unit of gameplay) behaving remotely sensibly (your job to maintain of them as the player) in a Homeworld game is now lost technology.

I picked 2 problems at the very core of the gameplay. There are loads.


They should have known how these were problems from the outset (like I did as a player that simply saw what the first game did right TWENTY FIVE years ago), but they didn't. They should've seen and heard us pointing out how good these things were over the whole entire years this game was in development, but they didn't. They should have heard people like me making critiques (including my video explaining all of this stuff that racked up more views than most of the paid ad videos they bribed the shill youtubers to make) 3 months ago, but they didn't.

So this is not a Homeworld game. As someone that played the demo from the PC gamer magazine in 1999 and everything else from Homeworld since (I don't count the cashgrab mobile games) - skip this. £50 for this is a rip off and it's as insulting to me as a player as this game's fundamental gameplay is to the legacy of the original games. I don't understand how it could have gone so wrong after so much work from the players to steer them.

The only Total War game worth playing in 2023 (I consider FotS to be the same game, you can play them both at the same time in MP), and they know that, which is why they tried to let the Multiplayer die and then broke the mod manager.

One of those rare games that actually offers a challenge.

I've played 1 battle in a Warhammer title and it was in this, and I won it with 3 losses on legendary difficulty in about 5 minutes. It's even easier than Troy. 3K and Troy and Warhammer are all the same.

I didn't buy this game. I don't even know how I own it. I got Warhammer 1 and 2 for free in 2020 when CA gave me a press key. CA emailed me to say I was removed from their "content partner program" i.e. partner ranch/kennel in 2020. It's 2023 and I just checked the DLC page for "Chaos Dwarves" and it said I already own it. I clicked play and it started downloading. I don't like Warhammer. I think it's garbage. I didn't even launch Warhammer 1 or 2. Could've won it with 0 losses if I tried a bit harder and cheesed more (or actually used my other hand). This game is garbage just like Troy, and for the same reasons. Cartoon Total War. And to make it even better, I only got to play it because CA completely botched how they give access out to their kawntent kreayturs.
