I think the community has been very rough with this game. I've played LiS 1, BtS, and TC, and I don't think this was a bad game at all. In fact, I've loved how the devs made Max more mature in terms of mind, personality, and also her powers. Most people on the internet are blaming the absence of Chloe in the game, but the community also needs to grow up just as Max did. In this game, the important thing is how Max makes decisions in a more rational way than in the first game. I won't deny it has some plot holes that the devs may somehow cover in the sequel of DE, but I definitely liked the character development of Maxine.

(From now on, this review will contain SPOILERS)

Speaking about the other characters, they also have great development, but the way you meet them is just more tedious than in the first LiS. There were more dialogues and hints in the world to explore them. In this game, you just have your phone to check your friends’ messages and an Instagram-like social media. You may get to know the characters even deeper, but it's very tedious to read all the messages from the characters on your phone when the plot is actually... intriguing.

Don't get me wrong, the first 3 chapters were so much fun; every aspect and clue encouraged you to keep playing and discover more about the plot. However, the fourth chapter showed a plot twist which, besides being interesting, kinda feels forced and lacks background. I mean, the game showed you hints about that plot twist in the previous chapters, but the problem with chapter 4 was the devs stopped following the main plot, which was keeping Safi alive and uncovering the mystery of her death. They literally showed that at the end of chapter 2, but they never explained why that happened, and now there are a lot of theories on Reddit about why Safi was meant to be killed. Instead of that, they changed the course of the story to a "secondarily important" plot, and then boom, they bring back the messed-up time issue from OG LiS 1 Chapter 5.

The solution that Max offered in the final chapter of DE was mature in terms of character development, but that solution just opens even more questions than at the beginning of the game. I mean, Max, instead of abandoning the campus with the storm just like she could do with Arcadia Bay (depending on which ending you chose in OG LiS 1), somehow saves everyone. But at what cost?

Now the entire campus knows about Max's powers, and they also have double memories as a product of combining two different timelines. That obviously may be a plot for the next game. But that's DE’s main issue: the ending offers more plot holes and questions than the beginning. I will wait until the sequel, but if Square Enix closes Deck Nine, I will absolutely edit this review and put a thumbs down.

Our Dark Lord Igarashi deserves all the offerings from we, his followers. I'm so glad he bring us the randomizer and zangetsu mode yesterday. Fightning our Dark Lord itself in this DLC is just a blessingg

Still haven't beat the game, but I must say it's a masterpiece. It's the true succesor of PS1 Castlevania. It combines the sidescroller gameplay with an open world exploration and also RPG elements. The story is enjoyable and I'm excited to beat our dark lord Igarashi in the DLC. It may be shame that we won't get the roguelike dlc, but randomizer also sounds fun. I'm hopping this year we also get the Zangetsu DLC. If you liked Super Castlevania 4 or Castlevania Symphony of the Night, well this feels the same and maybe better
