I have played 30+ hours combined Alpha + Beta + this release version.

This game is not "Top 10 / Game of the Year" but it IS fun, free-to-play, and Good Enough. You can choose PvE missions (Solo / Co-Op), or choose PvP missions (3-player squad). SOLID game that blends mechanics from 'looter-shooters' and 'action rogue-LITEs' into a sci-fi setting. Game optimization is SMOOTH for me & my friends on 2070 Supers and RX 5700s.

But I understand many of the negative reviews -- and some are not "wrong" for feeling the way they do about the gameplay loop.

>> for example: <<
"...bullet sponges, boss fights..." + looted Tech-Mods serving as Skill-Tree Builds + "...sitting in a room for 10 minutes emptying ammo supply into enemies..." + reading random perks at upgrade stations = Boring and not enjoyable for some players.

Funny thing is -- for Destiny, Borderlands, The Division players, THIS is the EXACT core game loop that is loved about those games, LOL.

It's the 'PvE looter shooter' formula -- if you can think of Perk Stations as "chests / crates", and random dropped Mods as "gear abilities & skills".

But it seems like it's less a problem with the ACTUAL game, but more with how this game has been Marketed and how the Expectations for it are all over the place. Some people are expecting something like 'Hunt Showdown, Tarkov' extraction; some are thinking sci-fi RPG; some are thinking action-RPG like 'Outriders'; some expect a rebirth of 'The Cycle' and 'Scavengers' ... it's just confusing up-front.

♦♦ Skill Trees / Loadout Upgrades ♦♦
A large part of the game actually is building your loadouts BEFORE going into your next missions (you do this at the HQ-Hub) --- but it's done differently than other PvE games ---

Random mods are picked up (think: "items", "gear", "abilities", etc.) and get slotted into your loadout, and are customized via upgrades to help you on your next run. There's a whole system of fusing mods similar to 'Warframe' -- it's like a mashup of rogue-LITE game mechanics.

This includes the Nano weapons -- it is a grind loop, and it actually does improve the fun the more Mods you earn & find ... but it just seems like a "Love It or Hate It" type of gameplay.

-----
Long story short:
-----

If a gamer expects anything OTHER than a Division, Borderlands, Destiny type of experience ... with Nanos replacing Magic or Tech abilities -- Synced is going to feel bad... very bad.

On the other hand -- if you love the core loop of those types of games -- AND you are looking for a PvE foundation that you can play Solo or CO-OP, as a FREE-to-Play ... then this is a great addition to your library rotation. Niche genre-game.

Overall Grade = 7 out of 10 recommended

PvP & matchmaking = Mid-Tier... very very Mid.
PvE matchmaking should improve as more players learn the game - hopefully.
