It's not that bad.
Controls and Pawn intercations feel worse. Pawn AI is similar to the first game, which is good. Less gear variety. Target snapping (?) can be frustrating.
Quests are fine and some are really enjoyable, however no Notice Board anymore. Exploration is fun.
Postgame seems to be timelocked but is not, which makes postgame really fun and engaging. Minor changes to NG+ offer some reason to go into it aswell as different choices within quests having different outcomes sometimes. Enemy variety is lackluster and in certain areas (almost everywhere) you barely can walk without encountering a group of enemies. Gear enhancement is engaging and an upgrade to the first game, however the new dragonforging is kind of lame although it removes the RNG aspect of it. Lots of potential for grinding out things (Pawn Badges for example). Stat growth has also been changed to be (how I understand it) only relevant early on as at the max. level everything will be the same statwise. This is okay but ultimately doesn't affect me since I didn't care about it in the first game. There seems to be a non marginal amount of cut contet however. On a few occasions it feels like the story just skips forward. The overall story however is good and the lore additions are fitting. Price is still too high, MTX is lame, Optimization is bad, Pawn Inclination is tied to the voice.

Edited from "not recommend" to "would recommend" although either get it on sale or enjoy the first game.

Probably the most enjoyable game ever. It offers something for everyone. Very deep character customization, itemization, crafting and tons of content with regular content updates in a 3 month cycle. Bugs get fixed, the developer is listening to the community and is very hard working (you can tell). In my opinion the greatest game ever to exist! Cant wait for future updates and PoE2. Love it!
