There are many aspects I like from Outhold that make it stand out from other roguelite TDF games. Instead of opting for a game with many levels, the developer has instead made a few short levels with many tasks that you can go back an attempt to complete at a later time. There are simply not enough resources to upgrade everything in the tree at once; however, you can sell your upgrades for a 100% refund and buy a different upgrade. The developer has even gone so far as added upgrade "builds" that you can swap between!

The sound design is pretty good, but I can't get behind the music. I also think the developer could have added more levels instead of just the 10. Like the developer wrote in the game's description, you can expect 4-6 hours of gameplay.

If you are familiar with games like this, I would recommend you pick this up, but if it's on sale.

Wait for sale.

I will be honest, this game can probably be beat in less than 20 minutes if you just dig straight to the end. There are some side tunnels and such that are interesting to dig through, but you don't have to dig those out to complete the game.

The upgrades are pretty limited. There is a very obvious tool combination that is most efficient. It can be acquired pretty early on. All other upgrades will sacrifice some pretty crucial stats that will actually slow down progression.

Somebody thought of this. Somebody animated this. Somebody published this.

Rather than relying on jump scares and psychological horror, The Outlast Trials explores shock horror with gruesome scenes. Many of these depicting the kinkiest BDSM fantasies. But there are no safewords in this game.

Best played with a group of friends. After all, misery loves company!

For those familiar with the Outlast franchise, the use of shock horror does mean this game might feel as a detachment from the series. There is little psychological horror that will keep you up at night. Unless, if you count the PTSD of seeing [REDACTED].

Fun, but aged poorly. The developers have chosen to overtune weapons that favor aim assist, which I can only presume is to preserve the dying player base. And in their efforts to encourage the dominate controller player base, they have scared away the traditional mouse and keyboard players, like myself. Balance patches are rare, however, the store is updated nearly twice a week; further evidence in support of my claim.

I do not recommend this game to anyone. Period.

The game was originally supposed to be a PvE. Then it became PvPvE. But the braindead Warzone players dominate the experience.

If the developers were to add a PvE only mode, this review would be completely different. It's sad because this game has a beautiful visual style and soundscape, and is lowkey a horror game.

What's sad for me is I had this game in my wishlist for nearly five years, ever since it was added as TBD on Steam. Another promised game lost by poor development choices.

Pretty spectacular prediction software. I would recommend picking this up for non-FBT users who want more realistic "tracking" of their hips and legs.

I would argue VRC's elbow prediction is generally better, but the trade-off is worth it. (If you disable Standable's elbow trackers, then the remaining trackers become less accurate for some reason).

If there was one thing I would like from this program, it would be more calibration options for how the software should predict based on your personal body movements. Like a "key frame" system.

One issue I had was if I kept my hand parallel with my forearm and swung my elbow out about my wrists axes, the predicted motion was me bending my wrist. But if I instead bent my wrist, the predicted motion was the elbow swinging out. I don't understand how the predictions are wildly different even though the physical motion of the controllers should have been nearly identical.

Enemy UAV online

For those worried about multiplayer cheating: it has become a nonissue. The game is so old that even if you play a couple hours a day for a week, you might only encounter one or two cheaters.

That said, you will be pulled into a lot of modded lobbies. This is annoying, but there is a way around it. You can consult this guide for how to block modded lobbies.

If you don't want to deal with any of this hassle, there are clients you can download that solve all these problems automatically.

Each unlock provides so little advancement, that it doesn't ever feel like you are progressing. It's a constant grind.

The premise and gameplay is nearly identical to Nodebuster, which provides a far more entertaining gameloop

Like the other negative reviews have said: you don't truly get a chance to enjoy the game because you are constantly being thrown enemies. I remember playing a similar flash game years ago (may this may have been it), but I vaguely remember the enemies also fighting each other and there being safe zones for you to put yourself back together. This game just isn't it.

Fast fun and engaging gameplay. The progression is satisfying and every unlock makes you feel like you made the right choice.

I think the price is fair for this little indie game that you might get a few hours out of.
