This game sucks. Graphics are ok. Combat can be infuriating at times. Base building is wonky. Performance is disappointing. The game engine sucks and mods suffer as a result. A lot of the armor looks dumb as hell. Questionable game design choices are everywhere. What seems like obvious game features are missing in a lot of places. The community is one of the worst parts of the game.

No words, 100/10, will log hundreds of more hours on it before Im done.

My favorite Paradox game thus far, with Stellaris being a close second.

The new update coming in about a week will fix almost all of my gripes. Scratches the economic itch I get when playing any Paradox game- I love building in CK3, I love becoming a strong economic force in Stellaris, and the very little I play HoI4 I spend most of the game just building. With a more simplified warfare system, I enjoy it a lot more (Though a portion of the community just really want 1836 HOI4) as it's my least favorite part of HoI4, and it cant be easily cheesed like other Paradox games. The politics system is also really fun.

My only gripes are flavor and the US (aside from those being fixed in the next update). A bunch of nations really kinda lack flavor, though mods and time will be fixing this I'm sure.

My biggest gripe is the USA. They are far too diplomatically interventionist (to be honest, a lot of nations are), The US at this time following the Monroe doctrine, staying out of the politics of Europe- but they love involving themselves ALL THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TIME. Randomly allying France or Belgium, and getting in the way of a lot. Trying to form Italy? Nope, Sardinia is allied or guaranteed by the US. Sokoto trying to steal colonized land off of the French? Think again, the US is allied to them- and they have 400 conscript ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to ship across the ocean. They should abide by the Monroe doctrine and have a penalty or extreme weight modifier to make them avoid getting involved in Europe and Africa.

This interventionism is also excessive with most Great Powers, with random great powers allying with or guaranteeing minor nations. And me, not liking playing big nations (I really only play minor/regional powers) it becomes a problem when for some ungodly reason England and Egypt decided that defending Darfur is MAX PRIORITY- the backwater in the middle of the desert with nothing in it. Egypt sure, but why is England there?

Obligations are especially overvalued by the AI, as a minor nation offering an obligation is accepted fairly easily by GPs (and they dont do anything with it!) Thankfully mods fix this to a degree, but it's still somewhat absurd.

Otherwise, it's an amazing game. They consistently are releasing updates that make the game better and better, and each DLC is a great new experience. I highly recommend Victoria 3 if you yearn for more politics and economics, rather than the focus on warfare that the other paradox games seem to have, I preordered this game and dont regret it one bit.

Picked it up ages ago and finally played today. This game KICKS ASS. It's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun. Saying homoerotic things to everyone in my truck and then some S tier combat scene from a movie begins. A couple cool things from the matches I played:

Automatic rifleman in the PLA vs the US Army. Holding down a doorway as grenade after grenade flies by blowing up near our hab. Teammates dropping left and right, automatic chainguns decimating everyone around me. I valiantly hold the door as americans pour in, I kill 10-15 before I'm shot in the back of the head. I was the last one left on the objective. "CHINA NUMBA 1" I scream, in my death.

Im a Canadian automatic rifleman in the vast desert of Nowheraki, hunting down enemies and getting into skirmishes north of an important objective. I watch my team die. Me and a teammate accidentally build an enemy respawn point (dont ask). I promptly gun down 5-10 enemies spawning in front of me, as friendly mortar fire lands nearby. Being in a skirmish with an insurgent on a rooftop and enemies appearing in front of me, mortars raining from the sky, I hear an engine. Explosions, machine gun fire, a friendly tank arrived and blew their HAB to smithereens. I cockily advance before getting shot in the back of the head.

I'm playing as a US Infantrymen in a desert airfield. Me and the team commander are stuck together like glue. I scout out for him with my M4 + ACOG. I climb on top of him and jump up to a higher position. Bullets start flying over my head, and I drop to the floor to get cover. 2 more teammates start following me and we're all huddled on top of a roof, cuddling, protected by a hip height wall. I spot the target: an armored vehicle on top of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ building??? Promptly, a missile hits the vehicle and it explodes. Me and the squad get organized and push forward on to the objective. We win shortly afterwards.

Last anecdote, I was a Middle Eastern Insurgent fighting the USMC for control of a desert city. I find the most interesting thing... a Toyota with a rocket launcher strapped to the back. Me and another tali come up with a great idea: charging headirst into the frontline and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everything up with our rocket launcher. Absolutely brilliant. We promptly charge and ram an enemy APC headfirst. Their infantry dismount and I unload tens of rockets into their feet, killing almost all of them. Shots flying by me, my driver leaves- leaving me exposed as the turret traverse angle is pitiful and I can pretty much only aim forward in this toyota. These missiles have a 2km+ range but point blank is the way to go. Soon my teammate drops dead, and I unload every rocket I can off to destroy the vehicle, before I run out of ammo and am killed.

This game is fun as hell. If you've played Hell Let Loose, imagine that but modern day, with bigger maps, and the maps dont ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck like HLL's.

Early Access Review
Extremely fun game. Balance wise, it's really easy for the employees to win. There's only 1-3 guns per game, and if the dissidents don't get them, it's almost guaranteed for the employees to win. On top of that, most guns only really have one bullet.

What I do like is there is a nonviolent way to win for the dissidents, by sabotaging tasks. It's a good take on the genre imo and it can be fun to go on a murder spree or intelligently stall tasks (like analyze or pizzushi in particular) to win the game. The tasks are good for this as most of them involve traveling long distances with particular objects.

As for map design, a lot of places are just too open, and it makes it incredibly difficult to kill particularly. The strat for dissidents just has to be to sabotage. Most places are covered in windows (offices, pizzushi) are by high-traffic walkways (Every room except security), or are so wide open with little visual or auditory blockers (security, storage, engineering) that makes dissident killing nigh impossible.

Combined with short games and an entire afternoon of playing, dissidents only won twice in my playtime. 3.5 hours of playtime and about 8 minutes per game, with randoms and one friend. I've only found single digits worth of loaded guns, and that's with actively seeking them every single game (as employee and dissident).

All in all, very fun. Needs serious balancing work to make playing dissident any fun.
