In many ways, it's a miracle this game actually exists. Unfortunately, this is a pretty lackluster take on a series I grew up with and loved. During the roughly 8 hour experience, I ran into 3 soft locks that prevented me from progressing any further. I had to restart major sections of the game (including the 2nd to last puzzle) in order to continue.

The game is extremely buggy - events firing out of order, people talking over each other, the background shifting off the screen so you can Unity's default 'empty level', characters walking off of geo, missing voice lines, it's rough all around.

All things you can look past if the gameplay is captivating, which this game also fails on. Most of the puzzles are moving an object, rotating an object, or picking up an object and using it on that screen. Those that are looking for creative problem solving where you have a bunch of items and 10-20 screens of possible ways you can use those items will not be satisfied. If there is a puzzle, the items you need to solve the puzzle are on that screen or 1 screen adjacent.

Much of this very interesting looking world is 'uninteresting' (according to Ace), who spits out that default dialog line when you use the 'eye' icon on something that doesn't have a description associated with. And that's going to be most of the game. Speaking of the UI, I am confused as to why it's as bad as it is. The simple act of walking, moving, and looking is painfully tedious, requiring multiple button presses for each action or mouse wheeling through your options. Something like pressing 'w' to activate walk, 'e' for eye, etc would have been such a huge help.

In all, it's such a disappointment to see something so formative to my video game memories be soured by what this is. Cherish those memories of Space Quest, remember the good days, but do not try to supplement those with SpaceVenture.

This game is not Subnautica in space. It's a poorly put together survival framework without any player agency or reason to do anything. The humor is grating and serves only to poke fun at how pointless everything in the game is. Stay away.
