The game is like diet X-COM but you don't really need to give a rat's butt about the story and characters. When the characters die in the beginning you don't really feel the pain of their loss. Sure Diaz sees the corpse of the guy who desperately wanted to see his family again and you see the picture of his presume-to-be wife but the guy with the bushy facial hair doesn't really give Diaz the moment to mourn for him and the other fallen Gears (soldiers) and it almost feels like involving the characters in the beginning in a cutscene was kind of meaningless. Even when you save characters from their torture devices, they are kind of without much emotion, they don't really talk much right after you rescue them and you don't even know their names until you switch to them after you save them (yes, I know that this is so that it doesn't interrupt your gameplay with a cutscene, but some quips or voice lines announcing their name would be interesting at least). The only character in the beginning that has a morsel of character was Prescott even though he seemed rather apathetic towards the human lives that were lost, it showed at least the kind of character that he has. Diaz feels like a coward of a man and tried to stay away from combat, as if his cowardice was caused by his military failures. You can tell that this game was made so that you could feel a bit more of empathy for the plot of Gears 5, Kait, and her father Gabe Diaz, but it is kind of obvious that emotional story-telling was not the main talent worked with here. Which is simply shameful considering how well Gears of War 1 through 3 were as far as story-telling. Hell, even Gears 4 had some decent parts! The gore seems toned down quite a bit compared to the Third-Person Shooters in the same franchise so don't expect for big blobs of blood to be covering the screen when you get hurt or execute an enemy. The missions where you are limited by a certain amount of turns feels like it nerfs the experience. I am sure that there have been other turn-based games where this shines but here it just adds to the frustration that this game has, especially when you are trying to complete the optional side-objectives along with the main objective(s). Mind you, when you complete a mission you cannot go back and replay the mission so if you want the side-mission objective to be completed you may have to restart the mission over or complete the game on New Game Plus and go through that one more time when you reach that part of the storyline again. This game feels very tedious at times and makes you question whether you should quit the game for a while and come back to it later, continue playing until you get bored, or just stop playing it. The game runs well, although at times it will randomly pause for a second in a cutscene. This is a tough game to recommend, although since nothing feels buggy or broken I suppose I should recommend this, I would just lower your expectations if you thought this game was going to be as arcady as Shadowrun Returns or as complex as Phoenix Point and the original X-COM: UFO Defense. One thing that this has going for it though is the fact that all loot-boxes are free and that you don't have to pay for any expansions or DLC.

I would say that I don't recommend it, but I'd be lying since I put in about 40 hours of gameplay into it lmao

I'm glad Fortnite is dying. It's karma for taking Unreal games off of Steam and GOG.

Early Access Review
It's like Diablo and Vampire Survivors had a love child. The graphics reminded me of Darkest Dungeon and that isn't a bad thing. I like the loot system, however it feels like the loot should feel more impactful than it currently does. There are plenty of upgrades to make your runs more improved, so unlike in Vampire Survivors you aren't limited to only 5 to 10 passive upgrades per stack. People are complaining about the information on buffs and de-buffs, but I feel that it was done well. The only thing I didn't understand was about how to gain souls. I will recommend this to anyone who likes looter slashers and Action-Roguelikes.

I can't help but feel like the game doesn't want you to beat the boss on the third level at all. Like this game hates you completely. Unlike other roguelikes there is no reward system, only a punishment system. It is not rewarding to play at all so there isn't much to learn from your team's parish at all. There is no way to upgrade or boost your future parties as this game relies on nothing but luck. I'll give this game a 6/10. It looks nice but it does not reward your time that you have invested into this game. -_-

Although you can no longer buy this on Steam, I think it's a good mobile game. I bought all of the DLC too and there is a lot of RNG content. That may be why people don't like this game. There are times where if you don't draw the right card you will be at a major disadvantage versus your Ai opponents. After you realize that you won't win every game no matter how good you are at X-COM, you can view this as a decent game. My only gripe is that sometimes how your character is positioned can make it difficult to target your enemy even when you would think your character is aiming at your enemy but the grid has other plans for you.

Yeh, it's a good round based horror shooter. There's a sense of progression as far as upgrades go. Just make sure you can handle the game's requirements and you're good.

Just no. Sorry but there is no progression system so pretty much if you're a weaker character going up against a stronger character, there is no way of getting items, the characters are all randomized, sometimes your character will spawn below the map, there is lag, there are very few players, your abilities rely on mana which depletes very quickly and sitting in the healing area barely speeds up your recovery, some abilities sometimes have no effect, Once your core is exposed all a player has to do is auto-attack once and your core is destroyed. The balance in this game is a joke. I feel like it's silly for only the attacker to get minions and I find that balance unfair. I think the lack of your characters to have an overwatch ability (so they can at least defend themself until you switch to them) a bit annoying. The amount of Mana that your ultimate ability takes can eat up 2/3's of your mana which causes you to think twice about using it, because if you miss you'll be waiting a long time for your mana to recharge (it takes more than a full minute just to recharge half-way) and you'll have very little left for your other abilities. Sometimes when you're put in a private arena (which I think is one of the character's abilities) the other player remains invisible to you, even if they are attacking you. This game has no music at all which makes this game seem lifeless and dull. I wanted to like this, I really did but the only players who play this are try-hards.

It's a good game, in my opinion. It's as if Age of Empires allowed you to summon tanks, artillery shells, and planes (found in the later upgrades). Unlike Dawn of War, this game's tutorial actually teaches most of what you need to know and if you need practice there's always versus A.I. or the campaign mode (you could also just go through the tutorial again).
