This game is great. The learning curve is pretty up there, and you'll have to fix some controls if you have a non-standard keyboard. There's something special about the writing that's gone into it. The love and care that's gone into every character, even the generated ones.

You'll never play another game like this. Play Qud and just on the main quest you'll make friends with a mute bear, a talking plant, a goat warden and a bunch of trolls. That's not to mention the hundreds of other animals, beings and gods you'll end up meeting. Every single one of them feels surprisingly genuine and three dimensional.

Wildfrost is a fun game with surprisingly deep mechanics. At a surface level being able to only play one card a turn sounds like a simplification to the deckbuilding genre, but with the character abilities, tactical use of the redraw mechanic and the various status affects the game gains a surprising tactical depth, requiring the player to think multiple turns ahead. I don't think the challenge of the game is so high as to put most people off, though perhaps those who are expecting a casual playing experience will be surprised by how much the game expects of them.

The balance seems "okay" for me, some enemies you sigh when you go up against them, but I have never played a roguelike where that's not true.

This games great. It's incredibly feature rich, which does also mean it's a bit dense to get into, and there's no great internal bibliography so I'd recommend cracking open the wiki to check bits and pieces when it's not obvious. For example, be keeping requires hives, but the game doesn't tell you which crafting station you need to build them, or that splitting colonies doesn't slow down honey production, or that honey takes six months to be produced. It's like this with everything, so be prepared to do some googling.

I've never been super into DF, I lost a few nights to the ascii version and a tile mod some years ago, but could never get over the lack of mouse controls. This version fixes all that, and most things are relatively intuitive, at least if you have an idea of the basics.

Adds a lot of fun content, the culture changes are really nice for managing the future of your culture and helps gain innovations for tribal leaders. The throne room is a fun addition along with holding court giving a fun way to get prestige and other bonuses!
