High on Life is a great game to play through, Its not for everyone by any standard, but if you enjoy the humour from Rick and Morty, or any of Squanch games other games this will be right up your street.
Solid shooting mechanics feels a bit like an easier doom. With some good movement mechanics added in.

The story felt well paced and introduced new weapons and abilities at a good rate, with each addition filling their own niche, some of the boss fights felt like a good challenge and if anything I wish the checkpoints in them were a little tougher, but it does make the game more accessible to a wider audience.

My only gripe is getting 100% turns into a grind towards the end, hunting all the collectibles and finishing all the challenges starts to get a bit dull especially if your not using a guide, with the easiest method to finishing the challenges involving lots of resetting. If your not a completionist though I wouldn't worry too much.

The High on Knife DLC was a good addition to the base game, there was only one new weapon which replaced the final weapon you get in the base game which was a bit of a missed opportunity. (also one weapon is replaced but with a mechanically identical one so I don't count this) Otherwise the DLC overall was a nice addition, with a good short story and some fun development for Knifey, similar to the main game my only issue again was the grind to hunt all collectibles.

Overall though as a package I'd recommend both the Base game and it's DLC,

One of the better PVP games I've played in a while, probably the best extraction shooter I've played bar none.

Really used to enjoy this game, But my god I don't know what they've done but the recoil is so broken, fired a rifle and within 2 shots I'm aiming at the moon, My problem is that it doesn't feel good, or intuitive and standing still on a firing range doesn't give you an accurate idea, so thought I'd try a deathmatch to get my aim back in, but then the spawns in that are so bad you can't survive for longer than 30 seconds without being 1 tapped it feels like, the skill gap is insane it seems, and maybe I'm too old to get my aim back in to what it was when i last properly played, but at the same time it's just not as fun as it used to be and doesn't feel balanced.
The Erangel Classic feels pretty good, makes the game feel like I remember and doesn't feel so insurmountable but its only on for another week so I probably won't play past that.

Also I noticed coming back you no longer get items in chests you get imprints which you then have to grind materials to make the item, so it used to be, grind for a chest and key get an item, not its grind for a chest and key, get an imprint, now grind more chests and keys to get more imprints to deconstruct to get materials to them build your imprint, with higher rarity imprints requiring more materials it feels so much more grindy than it needs to be pushing you towards spending money on items instead.

Feels a shame the game is so far from what I remember. and not in a good way.

Do not buy this, such a waste of time and money, absolute L of a game, maybe in a few months time when its patched and better supported this game may be worth it, but my god the servers are awful, the main draw was to play these classic games in multiplayer but its so badly put in place, its like it wasn't even QA tested at all, currently its a shameless money grab and Aspyr should be ashamed of what they put out to the public. Absolutely shocking for what should have been an easy W.

Early Access Review
Updated review as of March 2025:
Seems to be the game has been abandoned by its devs, sadly need to change my review to negative, if the team reappears with a substantial update I'd consider changing back, for now though I can't recommend abandoned content, Lost potential here

Old review:
This is what Battlefield should have been, great game for infantry and vehicle large scale battles.
My only gripe is the obnoxiously large scope glint on snipers, the fact I can contest a sniper, cross map, with an M4 and shoot them through trees due to how big and obvious the glint is, its a bit mental. Thankfully I don't play snipers all that much but feels a bit unfair.

9/10 remove scope glint and it's a 10/10

EA you've done it again!

Its a shame, there was so much wasted potential here.
The Betas and alphas made it clear there were some glaring issues Dice flat out ignored these to get out the release.
100% not worth the full price, not surprised to see it on sale already.
Most BF games are bad at launch, there's always bugs and issues they later fix, however this one has some things that frankly shouldn't have been allowed to go into the live build, this game needed a minimum of 6 months more in the over if not more, I feel bad for people who paid full price or bought deluxe editions. And I feel bad for the devs who had to release a game they knew wasn't up to standard, because there's no way they didn't know most of the issues.

Pros:
•Quite Large maps
•Alright graphics
•Large Scale battles
•Breakthrough is alright, though balance is borked AF
•Some guns feel alright to use.
•Some of the character abilities are cool. (though should have just been items not character abilities)
•Portal is a cool concept but feels a little lacking

Cons:
• Weapon spread on most weapons is widely inconsistent, you can be on target and see shots go wide for no reason.
• Woeful lack of weapons in majority of the categories, especially for a BF game though I imagine they'll add more in DLCs to justify people buying them.
• Weapon Balance in General is just borked, some SMGs outperform ARs at range
•Specialist... Just why, this is just not needed in a BF game and was just such a pointless decision, ruins customisation, means enemies look like teammates sometimes, its just bad all round. Almost feels like Dice wanted a Hero shooter type game rather than a new BF game.
•One specialist has the ability to see through walls.... I mean really Dice!? Really!?
• Vehicles are overpowered to ♥♥♥♥ if the driver and gunner are even mildly competent. (hovercraft were glaringly overpowered on launch and again showed complete lack of QA and testing given how broken and overpowered they were)
• Points for destroying a vehicle only go to the player who kills it so there's no incentive to go for them otherwise. (maybe 10 points for disabling a part? and this isn't always guaranteed, also doesn't even say what part, like it did on other games)
• VEHICLES REGEN HEALTH after being out of combat. no idea who thought this was a good idea, it doesn't work in BF.
• AA will randomly not lock despite no flares and being well within range, sometimes rockets will ♥♥♥♥ off to Narnia randomly again despite no flares and being in range.
• Some breakthrough spawns are out in the open in sight of enemies with no cover to even react meaning you spawn and then just die, issue is on multiple maps.
• Net code was god awful and still has some issues now.
• Can't create custom squads in game
• Can't swap team, (your friends on the other team? tough ♥♥♥♥ you can't play with them)
•Portal doesn't have any BF2142 stuff in it (more of a personal thing but that's my favourite BF and I'd loved to have seen titan assault in Portal, hopefully in the future I guess)

Maybe 8-12 months down the line this game will be good, but at the moment its horrendous,
I played this initially through ea play originally, basically for free and I was glad i didn't buy it for full price, only bought it now because its on sale and a friend wanted someone to play it with them. If it wasn't on sale he'd be playing it alone 100%

In its current state just don't buy it. It's a poor entry into the series, and its so broken. Maybe only buy it if its heavily discounted or you have group of friends to play with, though again wait till its on sale to play with friends.

Had some great concept, but nothing was done to it's full potential and the developers took the money and ran with it having no intention to finish this game, not even sure if you can still buy it on the steam, but if you can I recommend not doing so as it'll never be finished

Thoroughly disappointed. This game had some great promise and I was hoping for something that didn't feel like an xcom clone. Sadly I didn't get that.

Combat is very much bog standard safe xcom style all developers seem to mirror. With some very odd decisions for combat. Example: As part of the game enemy gangs will attack your rackets. But the guards you have inside seem to be randomly generated each time. Case in point: I had a speakeasy attacked, the first time round enemies had 3 sawn offs and my guards had 3 revolvers, based on the layout of the location I won. Game crashed so I reloaded to a save before the attack this time my guards have metal pipes and the enemy have 2 revolvers and a shotgun. Hands down I lose very quickly. Reloaded the save again with similar random loadouts. Its just whose been rolled the best kit wins it seems In that case. Similarly hit percentages dont seem to mean much, not sure if its a bug or poor design or something else but the amount of times and enemy snipes you with a shotgun and you miss when your next to them becomes irritating rather than just feeling like bad rng.

The characters are mildly interesting but not majorly, and are thrown at you so quickly you can't develop any opinion of them really.

The management side of things is interesting but doesn't feel like there's really enough there to keep it interesting for any length of time.

Changing the difficulty only seemed to give enemies better %chances in hits against my gang rather than changing their playstyle. So for some reasons sawn off shotguns are hitting my guys from across the street while my guy with a rifle at 80% keeps missing which ruins the dynamic of combat.

If your into xcom this will feel familiar and you may enjoy it, especially if you like the idea of some light management and politics management. But to me I feel there are games that do each area better and are worth more investment and time.

Not particularly confident in a company that can't even make an ingame player count on servers work...... Would love to give more info but sadly there's only online and after 30 mins of trying to join servers I still can't, Bit of a bad start for a beta.
