The modding experience fixes the main problem with Terraria, the fact that the game ENDS at ALL. With the community behind the modding scene and all the scattered latent talent and passion for a game that may very well never truly die, this is the closest thing you'll get to the ideal 'free gamer expansion'. 5 stars, 10 stars, a trillion dollars.

Okay so after a few hours of this game, I can say it's good.
And then there was this huuuge update a few months ago, and it's finally the last update for the many year development course of this game. I still remember the developer's play through when I was a child and yearning for this game and THIS experience.

2d minecraft, haha funny meme, out of the way.
The games aren't even comparable, as an avid fan of both, I could very well treat this game like a cultist religion and nothing would change- I still deeply enjoy runs and re-runs of this game with complex levels of raw, unadulterated STUFF.
Wiring, logic gates, building, layers, phasing blocks, INVISIBLE blocks, block shaping, hoiking, rich environments, sparkling colors, modes of lighting that vastly change how you see the world, fashion so you can wear that armor that's too low level but still looks BALLER as hell, and you DON'T need a supercomputer to run it by itself. You can mold it, fold it, mod it, bop it.
It's nonlinear, it's constantly expanding,

I don't have a formula for writing reviews and I never do, but I think this game NEEDS it, it DESERVES a review from anyone who's going to play this game the same religious life-based way that I (and many, many others) do.
Nothing stops it from being "not that type of game" for certain people, sure, and I'm not going to go on a zealot type conquest on every heathen non-believer, but I will insist that I am a mathematically proven insomniac because of this gemstone in the slog that is both 2020 and mankind.

There are 8760 hours in a year.
You sleep for a third of your life. That's 2920 hours sleeping.
At the time of writing this I have 2,672 hours on record.
I can reasonably spend a third of my year sleeping, a third of it eating, drinking, pissing, or whatever a bitchly low-level human needs to live and maintain a normal life.
And simultaneously spend the other one third of every day playing or just LISTENING to Terraria.

There are problems- beat the game once, you've beaten it a dozen times.
Master mode isn't a flawless addition but if you're a masochist or a 'master' like m e then you can play it for more cosmetic options and some mounts.
You can't have sex with the npcs, either.
But on the flip side you'll be experiencing such a dopamine and serotonin flood through your central nervous system while you're being pounded by bosses and simultaneously pounding the endlessly satisfying, gratifying systematically constructed vision by the developers at Relogic.

tldr
the textbook definition of 'good'.

Cute game with fun modular building and fairly creative activities. I recommend taking your time, as you CAN fairly quickly bumrush this game if you know what you're doing, but if that's what you wanna do- do that too!
