I bought this to indulge my craving for a maze game.

And despite it scratching that itch, I simply cannot recommend this.
Now I can understand using stock photos and stock music as a background. This obviously wasn't made on a huge budget and I typically wouldn't complain about this. However, the jpeg compression on the backgrounds is abysmal and very easy to notice. The same goes for the ball you control.

The badly compressed ball has very floaty controls and whoever made this obviously didn't turn off the weight of the object in the physics section, because a simple tap will make it slide across the screen. Trying to navigate into the middle hole with three holes in a row is a nightmare.

The walls of the mazes often have inconsistent lengths and random black pixels strewn about.

The hitbox of the Ball doesn't match its sprite at all.

The texture of the finish line is inconsistent, badly stretched and has a black border on one side that is very easy to notice.

It also spams you with several achievements at the same time which makes me assume that this is one of those shovelware games for achievement hunters to finish quickly in order to boost their achievement count. As an achievement hunter myself, I can't exactly support this dishonourable conduct.

The mazes themselves are decent, but can be finished at record speed. Took my half an hour to finish the entire game. That may not be the same for you, but don't expect to be entertained for too long.

I must say, despite its pricepoint of <1 Euros, you can find better games for free on sites like itch.io and kongregate.

Don't support developers who don't even put the bare minimum effort into their games.

Typically I dislike it when games beg for votes in the steam awards, however, I think Hades more than deserves it.

Hades solved so many problems that have plagued rogue-lites for years and years. Children of Morta attempted something similar in that it made you experience the life of a family and tried to make you feel attached to the characters, and while that worked to a degree, the gameplay of Morta was subpar and the game had a multitude of issues.

Hades manages to have you engage with much more ridiculous characters than a mere family, gods, furies, floating gorgon heads, yet they all feel REAL. You feel like you're talking to real people, you empathise with them, you feel their joy as well as their disappointment.

It's also commendable how Hades managed to implement 6 unique weapons and within them 4 mostly unique variants each. Rather commendable given that the base abilities stay the same. The gifts that gods give you allow for incredible synergy. Some abilities are still better than others, but that's mostly run and weapon dependent. There's rarely anythiing you'd consider "trash tier".

Hades also enjoys the many quality of life improvements recent roguelikes have enjoyed, such as ability descriptions. Hades also strikes an interesting balance between permanent and temporary currencies, later allowing you to upgrade them so that permanent currencies still benefit your run in some way, turning underwhelming darkness rooms into desirable health boosters.

The story is great and the visual style? You need to get used to it. It can strike you as looking a bit like bad anime cgi at the start, but there comes a point where you barely notice it.

The only thing I would complain about is while the boons are mostly balanced, the weapon variants are not. Perhaps it's a matter of preference, but there's variants like the Bow of Chiron that are just undoubtably better than the other variants. Similarly, the secret variant of the spear is horrendous unless you happen to be extremely good at dodging and have a lot of titan's blood to spend.

one of the few games where I can give a 10/10 unironically, well done supergiant games.

This game has some of the most atrocious texture work I have ever seen. Even in the screenshots, you can already see that one of the grass textures essentially just looks like a two colour abstract art piece made in ms paint. But it gets worse once you actually buy and get into the game. It only gets made worse by the floaty controls and strong momentum that makes precise movements and jumping very difficult. Shots often miss and it's hard to tell what part of the utterly enormous crosshair you'Re actually supposed to be worried about.

The enemies themselves are a constant barrage of trash mobs whose constant aggression is meant to put pressure on you, however only ending up in the player falling over his own legs metaphorically speaking, as any method of getting away is immediately stopped by whatever just came out of the ground in the other direction.

The bosses are incredibly bloated when it comes to stats. On easy mode the second boss can have hundreds of thousands of health when each of your shots does 15 damage if you were unlucky like me and never got anything damage related. Meanwhile their attack hitboxes are so hard to judge that attacks landing 90° from the boss away hit you with their full force. Your field of view constantly limits your chances at prediction and evading.

Beautiful little game. Its colours pop out at you and despite being intentionally colourful never takes it too far and the colour language never gets lost in any of the major things you need to beat the game.

The gameplay a lot of people have compared to slime rancher, which I agree with. However after buying and playing slime rancher because of how much I loved this game, I'd actually say that I prefer the blaster Island Saver has. It doesn't throw items around when you suck them up at bad angles like slime rancher does.

The gameplay may not be particularly deep, but it's incredibly charming and somehow doesn't get boring despite being essentially the same thing every time.

Some important knowledge you will need for the game though, firing a doubloon into a recycling machine will give you the respective trash. You'll see why you need it second island onward.

The Children of Morta has some very beautiful sights, but immediately contrasts this with extremely flat character sprites. While no doubt intentional, it already left a bad taste in my mouth, only to be worsened by the gameplay issues down the line.

To keep my review concise. I will summarise a few problems I have with the game.

1. The dungeons seem like monster spam. This extends from the regular rooms to even the boss room and extra room. The entire challenge seems to be dogpiling as many monsters as they can on top of you and then punishing common strategies for dealing with this whether intentional (stamina cost for kiting with the daughter) or unintentional (the awkward 8-directional hitting you have to deal with when playing John)

It's not a varied or fun challenge to just have more and more thrown on top of you

2. The combat system is not bad in terms of skills etc., but the aforementioned 8-directions throw one off quite a bit, especially when with Linda you keep shooting into walls instead of shooting where you want to slightly to the side to shoot down a corridor. It's an awkward mixture of the worst of both worlds when it comes to locked vs non-locked, causing you to miss a lot of enemies in point blank range, especially with Linda.

3. A lack of telegraphing. I noticed this especially on the first boss. The burst of wind to signal her arrival is very short but doable, IF you can actually see the ring under the sheer volume of trash spam you're being subjected to while you're trying to fight her.

I do not have a lot of other problems. The story from what I've seen is o k, the family flavour is very nice, but the actual gameplay is lacking. I'd rather recommend something like Synthetikk for a rogue-like experience.

On an objective stand point, if you picked up the game and don't mind it for the first two hours, you will probably want to keep it. Its problems certainly don't lie in its content or that it somehow gets worse towards the end, not at all. In fact, the content is so varied that it becomes way too much for my brain to handle, but that's not why I give it a thumbs down.

My reasoning, hence why I mentioned the first two hours, is the controls. You will immediately notice them when you boot up the game. If they feel fine and intuitive to you, keep the game by all means. If you're like me and breaking blocks feels unsatisfying, placing them clunky, moving up and down like a chore and interacting with things especially with the tiny inventory and crafting wheel feels i n t e r e s t i n g to say the least, then it's probably not for you.

Long story short, playing this game for more than 1:30 hours turns my usually rather composed self into a caricature of yandev playing cuphead. Therefore, I can't exactly recommend it from my standpoint. If you don't see what the hell I'm talking about and you don't see the issue with the controls, buy it, you have my blessings.

Great soulslike with thematics execution, great customization options and extremely fluid gameplay other than a few specific moves having the tendency to drop framerate a little.

The bosses are all entertaining, at least for me. Their difficulty can vary greatly though. some bosses are a pushover and some like bladebearer and cannoneer will make you tear your hair. Thought needs to be put into beating the bosses, especially in New Game +. Building right for what you want to do is important, and you can change your build on the fly and rather quickly too. Each Blood code also saves the gifts you equipped with it, making it easier to switch. Modifying your build is great fun and so is the reward for when it pays off and you finally beat one of the bosses.

Get this game if you like souls-likes, though I should mention the game is designed with one of the ai companions in mind accompanying you at all times. If you disable the ai companions...well, it's doable and might provide you with a more authentic experience, but have fun.

This is not just two games slapped on top of each other. They are coded together into one glorious entity with genuine work put into it. Region-locked digimon were freed, the whole new catalogue of hacker's memory digimon was added to cyber sleuth, you can transfer digimon between the two games, the field guide is shared between games, it's beautiful that this game combo had actual effort put into it. Full recommendation.

And the games are great too! Imagine playing pokemon sword and shield when you could play a game where every creature has unique animations tailored to it and actually good models, on a laughable budget in comparison.
