I really liked this one.
The 2001 "return to castle Wolfenstein" vibes are strong, the tribute is obvious but the game still manages to find its own footing. I was particularly impressed by the level design in the two last acts. Huge maps, fun to explore, rarely confusing, which is impressive considering the scale on some of those.
Weapons were all fun to use, special mention for the crossbow, it always felt great to quickly switch to it to deal with mid- to long-range engagements.
The art style is gorgeous, it's like the perfect balance between retro and something more modern.
I probably see only one big flaw on this game, it's free ! I wish I could pay some money for the level of work the sole developer put into this for 4 years.
I guess I'll just have to buy the soundtrack then since he also created it.
In the meantime, fingers crossed for a second game in the future or some DLCs (and not free this time!), or even something completely different. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Rowye’s next projects.

I wish I had left a review for this game earlier. I've been playing it since its release back in 2016, but better late than never.

At the time of this review, I have played almost 700 hours of this game, and I'm still enjoying it with the same passion. Even though it may seem a bit rough around the edges, this is truly a special gem. If given the chance, it becomes quite addictive once you get into it. The gameplay loop and the flow it creates are some of the most effective I have ever experienced in a game.

Additionally, while this game is really enjoyable in tense solo sessions, the multiplayer is truly special, with possibly the friendliest community I have ever witnessed in a game.
