When I close my eyes and dream of the Eisenhower administration, I see white picket fences, boys riding bicycles, girls watching cartoons, housewives serving ice cold tea and then something stronger when the man of the house pulls in. Those were America's halcyon days. While the specter of nuclear annihilation loomed larger and larger as the decade waned, the nuclear family actually ruled the era. But what's become of that? Today, our families, much like once respected institutions, are broken.
