I feel like this game could be pretty fun, but it needs some extra polish to be the best game that it can be.

A few of the issues I ran into when trying the game out: Text goes by too fast. There's a person on the initial screen that you seemingly can talk to only once who then vanishes. Not sure what she said, and I hope it wasn't vital to the game experience.

The game scrolls from screen to screen, a la Zelda 1, but the game seems to place you in the next room immediately, without waiting for the screen transition to finish, with full control of your character. This means you can run into the middle of a pack of enemies without realizing it or having the screen be caught up.

The most major issue is probably the lack of clear help or button prompts. The pause screen gives a run down of the combat controls, such as they are, but there's no help for controller commends in the inventory menu. After purchasing my first weapon, I was experimenting in the inventory scren, dropped my weapon, and for some reason couldn't pick it up again. When I left the room and came back it had vanished. I was saved by a random chest appearing just past my starting point with a weapon, but if it hadn't been for that I probably would have stopped playing right away.

On the plus side, I do appreciate that there's a range of items and equipment to get, so that you can build a character out the way that you want. The retro aesthetic is good, and every piece of equipment seems to be represented on your character sprite, which is always a nice touch (at least the pieces of equipment I found.) If those stumbling points hadn't been there I could see myself really getting into the experience.
