This game was already a gem seven years ago, now it's been fine-tuned to perfection with a level of detail I haven't seen in any other shoot-em ups. The shooting is weighty and precise, the weapons are varied and the enemies are often unique for that level even if they are cannon fodder.
On the graphic side, apart from the usual gushing over the colorful, hugely parallaxed, enemy filled yet readable scenarios, I must say that it's impressive how cohesive the art style is throughout the entire game, you can always be sure it's the same universe everywhere you go.

Some things that changed from the old version:
1) COLOURED PROJECTILES! thank god, the one major gripe I had was that almost all the stuff coming at you were small cubes of muted grey\white\brown deadly power. Now they glow a bright red, maybe it impacts the carefully planned aestethic that the author was going for but for the gameplay is a huge boon.
2) Shooting rate has been slightly improved, so you don't have to wait half a second waiting your three whiffed shots to go offscreen to resume blasting. The game is still difficult as it is and I think it's been retooled to account for that (some places on the first world have three turrets where I remembered only two but I might be misremembering)
3) Controls are a tiny bit more precise than I remember.
