Honest to god banger. I've only played RE4 before, this is truly a banger in all aspects

A fantastic tool for older games especially

I wanted to like this game really bad, but it just kept shooting itself in the foot.

The atmosphere is fantastic, I liked the concept of the lantern world, enemy and armor designed overall are stellar. Can't say that boss fights were that good, but that is on the lower end of my complaints. I can't understand what happened in the level-designed department after upper carlath. Why do we have looping paths for no reason? Why do we have shortcuts withing shortcuts? Umbral was so tiring by the end of the game. It's such a cool concept, but the enemy frequency, the amount of enemies just thrown at you after a certain period... I really don't know. First half of the game felt like a very valiant and somewhat successful attempt at a Souls like taking the best aspects of Dark Souls 2, but by the end of the game it really falls a part. Same enemies, same-looking areas... This was an actual aneurysm to finish... I never want to launch this game ever again.
